Hi Viv, Savingqueen and everyone else.

I too have NY resolutions for September! Mine are starting on 4 September though as thats when the children start back at school.

1 - lose weight - need to lose 4 stone - diet club in evening of 4 Sept!
2 - furniture restoration course - starts 10 sept (interest evening course)
3 - Welding correspondance course - should be doing 4 hrs a week on it:shhh: Need to make a start and catch up.
4 - finish decorating that we started during summer holidays - found a fair few disasters that needed fixing first, which we've done.
5 - Keep up to date with ironing.
6 - Keep on top of cleaning and decluttering the house.
7 - Two carboots in September, so need to get things for them! Just need to sort through stuff

Think thats enough for now. Let everyone know how you get on peeps!!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Hi everyone,

What a great ides for a thread.
I am a teacher and go back to work on monday.
My goals for the new school year are

    1. Get fitter. I already walk a lot but I need to do something else.

    2. Cook some different meals. We always seem to be eating the same things.

    3. Carry on decluttering my house. I have made great inroads this summer but there is still a long way to go.

    4. Stop nagging my children quite so much. I really must let them get bored and find things to do on their own (they are teenagers).

    5. Get some new clothes. I have been wearing the same things for years, very MSE I know but maybe it is time for a bit of a change. Where is Gok when you need him!

6 Stop worrying about EVERYTHING quite so much. It usually all turns out ok.

    Good luck everyone.:)

    Hi Viv

...have followed you over from another thread. Hope you don't mind. Can I join you with your new start, because this is exactly what I need to do too. My DD is back at school next Thursday and I am a SAHM (partly because I want too, but also partly because I can't find a job that fits my skills and allows me to take DD to school and pick her up!).

    My resolutions are:

Continue to loose weight, started last Thursday. Lost 3lbs first week and want to loose a further 10lbs. Calorie counting aswell as trying to follow a budget for food!

Walk back from school, weather permitting, so dog gets at least one walk a day and we save some money on petrol (that can be used for other things)

Do Housework instead of sitting on the laptop most of the time, and seeing that as my job and doing well at it. (Very good at tidying not so great at the actual cleaning part)

Cope with the money that I have and stop getting anxious about not having any!! Not buy stuff we don't need. If I do need something to try and get it second hand or from the charity shop.

Spend quality time with DD when she is back from school and at the weekend and find other ways to treat her that don't involve spending money.

Well done for making your start and for prompting me to get my a**e in gear:T I look forward to hearing how you get on.

Now I just need the rain to stop so I can load the car and get some stuff to the charity shop!! On another thread I was bemoaning doing a car boot. Have come up with a solution to that one. Will keep items that I think are of real value and share a table with a friend who I know wants to do a car boot. The rest has to go to Charity. Much calmer now I have made that decision.

I could have written your post myself, it completely sums me up. My daughter starts school next Tuesday and need to start looking for part time work to fit round school, I have 2 other girls as well, but hav always had a "baby" at home and not worked for over 12 years. Need to get motivated but it is very scary. Good luck with all your goals.

Morning all and welcome to all those who posted late last night or early this morning....there seems to be a group of us now trying to make some big changes in our lives.

Today for me will be quite busy.

I need to go and pick up some bits from Asda that my DD wants for DGD for Christmas and to Argos for some baskets to store stuff in

Washing is already on and I've loads of housework to do but today I feel more motivated and determined to get it done - will let you know if that continues...

Then tonight its off to Snakes and Ladders , a children's play place and then MacDonalds for step DGS's birthday.....also need to wrap present and get a small non-birthday pressie for other DGS

Hope you all have a great productive day and don't forget to keep us all posted on how you are getting on

    xxx

Hi! Please can I hop aboard too? I'm also a retired teacher and I still think of September as a new year starting - means I get two shots at new year resolutions!
I'm also on the losing weight kick - have lost almost a stone over the summer and need to carry on. Am reducing portion sizes and avoiding dairy and regular wine drinking!! Ought to get the finess level up too...
I'm not good with getting on with admin type tasks - and I have a number of roles in life which generate loads of paperwork so I need to discipline myself to get on with this on a regular basis.
I really want to do some sewing as I have a huge stash of material and it keeps looking at me reproachfully! So again - I need to set aside time to do this.
Decluttering...I was a teacher, and keeping things "just in case" seems to be part of the package!!! Need to just make a start...but where?
Any help to get me started would be appreciated - I have cupboards full of books with lists in - it's the actual doing that is the problem!
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!

    beemuzed - welcome.

To get started, get 2 carriers and into one put 25 items that are rubbish [broken, old useless items] and into the other put 25 items that can go to the charity shop/recycle point If you do that you will have got rid of 50 items

Also add to that put 25 items into their correct place.....by now things should be looking a little better

I love the idea of having your New Year when you want - I'm a Pagan, and Samhain (Hallowe'en) is the equivalent of New Year's Eve to me.:o

So my New Year isn't quite yet, but I can still prepare and start practising.... (feel free to tell me to push off, if this is really only for people starting in September);)

    I need to
    • Reduce my anxiety levels
    • Reduce my guilt levels
    • Lose the stubborn half-stone that refuses to budge
    • Use up stashes of freebies - cleaning stuff (I have 4 bottles of bleach, from a blind testing thingy I did, plus a load of stuff Mr LW inherited when his mum died, 11 years ago, which wouldn't be stuff I'd normally choose) and face creams (I have countless free samples kicking about)
I'm fairly well decluttered as far as rubbish goes, thankfully; although I'm sure a scout round would reveal some stuff that can go in the charity box;)

My big problem is with lotions/smellies - I send for all these free samples, then never get round to using them (can't remember when I last used moisturiser). At the very least, I need to get into the habit of applying hand cream a couple of times a day.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

Last seen designing a range of clothes for Sainsbury's!;) I've got a lovely chiffon, pleated evening skirt and a long sleeved, jersey dress from his previous ranges. Has a to be worth a look!
