blocked access to garage.
Hi all.
Ive recently been having trouble parking my van in front of my garage. Its on the end of a block away from the houses. There is a fence blocking access to my garage and Until recently i have parked a couple of spaces down.
A few weeks ago someone tampered with the rear doors of my van so i decided to park against my garage and the adjoining wall. However. My neighbour blocked me in and was adamant she is parking infront of her garage. She told me to just speak to the people who own the adjoining house or speak to the council. The council did not want to know.
From what i can make out the fence/pavement/garden is original from when the estate was built in the 60's. If this is the case surely its an oversight on the councils behalf?
Weve only had the house 18months and i want to put a new garage door on and use it as a lock up for work but will not bother if i cannot get my van up to the garage.
Any ideas what to do next?
Thanks in advance
Steve.
Ps i just tried to upload a couple of pics to help explain but i wasnt allowed.

I cannot visualise how the garages are to your house or how the neighbour is blocking you in.
Any chance you can put up a rough sketch of the layout?
You have a garage, So obviously have access to that but parking in front of it may not be your right of way.
Its hard to advise without a layout and who owns what.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

There's a help thread here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1690399
Note the part in red about new users - you'll need to drop the http:// bit from the front so you can post it here

Hi.
I thought it may be a problem thats why i tried uploading a pic. The garages are next to a house. There is a concrete forecourt infront of the garages on which people park. As mine is nearest the house theyre garden has a slight elbow in so when the woman next to me parks in front of her garage there is a gap of about 3ft.
Try putting this into your address bar and delete the space between http: and /

that looks odd to say the least, you sure there havent been a bt of boundry extension going on over the years by the house in the pick, that dont look like coucil work to me, looks like half the garage wall is in the boundry of the house its next to, the curbing to the front of the drive to the garage with a bamboo type fencing you sure thats the coucils work looks like someone put that there to look good, not part of the front garden to that house is the pick is it0

That's a real pavement edge there though.
So it would be hard to have pinched the land.0 -
Thanks for the quick replies. I think Theyve put the fence up themselves but as has been said the kerb and edging looks original. At first glance i thought theyd done it themselves without telling the council but im not so sure now.0

Without the fence you'd drive over the kerb, so I can ee why that's been done.
You need to get the deeds for your house and garage, and their house to see what land should be where, and what rights there are. Also it's worth having a word with the council to see where they think the tarmaced road stops, assuming they own that.0 -
Mikey. My mum is a legal secretary and after a brief conversation with someone at work she mentioned an OC1 form? It costs around 8 quid and apparently i can get a copy of my deeds amd also i can find out what theyre boundaries are. Ive spoken to the council and they were useless. I asked if there was anyway they could find out from the original plans from when the estate was built. They just said its a civil matter and they could do nothing. I assumed if i have a garage then surely i must have a legal right of passage to be able to park in it.0

Not always. But if you have, it may be in the neighbours deeds. Get the garage owners next to you as well.0 -
Have you heard of this oc1 form? Im guessing if i asked them for a copy of their deeds so i can steal back their garden they wont be best pleased haha. What will getting my neighbours deeds achieve? Could it say something about leaving me access?0
