Favourite Meal to Cook?

Options
Was just wondered what everyone's favourite meal was to cook from scratch? I guess I'm possibly looking for ideas, I also wondered whether I was the only person that cooked things that I wasn't that keen on just because I really enjoyed the cooking process?

To start us off, I think I would have to say roast chicken with all the trimmings (inc hm bread sauce and stuffing) would be mine, working out the timings of all the bits and making the roasties and saus in bacon etc- love it!! (Does that make me really sad?!)

Close second would be risotto with the left over chicken, something about watching the rice grow! (OK that probably is just sad!) :o

PS: Sorry if this has been covered before, I did to a search, but

I really love cooking beef casserole... its not special or anything, i just enjoy the process of peeling and chopping the veg, slicing the meat, making the stock, sticking it all in the slow cooker, and leaving it cook for 19 hours until its all soft and gooey... i find it really theraputic...
You lied to me Edward. There IS a Swansea. And other places.....

For me it has to be duck breasts with a morello cherry/red wine jus served with steamed veg and baby potatoes in a parsley butter. The meal looks and tastes fantastic and I am surprised every time I make it by how easy it is to cook from scratch in under half an hour.

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Lasagne for me. For a bit of a funny reason, I use about 250g of mince and yet by making it stretch with veggies etc, can get 8 portions out of it!! It's probably my most economical meal.

  • Anything that fills the kitchen and house with yummy smells - really makes you look forward to eating it. (eg: baking bread, roast chicken, bacon in the morning, etc....) :)

Interesting question though...thinking about it, although I like cooking (and eating) there is not one particular dish or process which I enjoy, it's more of an overall 'general' thing.

  • The finest pork sausages with creamy mashed potatoes, onion and mushroom gravy and a few mushy peas on the side.

Good tip: when you've peeled the potatoes and cut them into chunks add some water and a sminch (smaller than a pinch) of salt and put them in the microwave on high for about 10 - 15 minutes until soft enough to mash up.

Have to agree, filling the house with yummy cooking smells and knowing that you're cooking an economical but really tasty meal really hits the spot doesn't it!

The mashed potato tip's a good one- I normally just boil mine but this would really work for me- Thanks!
  • I like making omelettes they're quick and tasty, with different fillings cheese, bacon, mushroom.

There was an ad on tv. recently showing a large mushroom with a cube of cheese in the middle and then bacon wrapped round it that looked interesting might try making some of those.

Or wot about chicken breast with a layer of cheese and topped with bacon wrapped in tin foil and roasted in the oven only takes about 45 minutes - very nice with salad
  • Roast Dinner and of course...............
