is browsing slow since you installed the mvps host file? - if so, rename it to hosts.x and try again.

There appears a few things on there, that dont usually come with a new machine, did you do a full factory restore?

    Try it without bitdefender.

I dont think so closed, but if you think renaming it will help, I will docould you just tell me how though please?

I did a full restore-fully wiped-which bits are not usual?

Should I switch to avast/MSE/AVG/Avira? I was pleased with bitdefender too :(

The boot up is very slow for the machine
    Possible cause:
24/08/2012 22:07:19, Error: Service Control Manager [7026] - The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: trufos
    trufos.sys is a BitDefender driver

I dont know what the first bit is closed but all the games were already on the computer, havent dowloaded anything like that-that is why I wouldnt swap to ubuntu because of all the apps and games on the computer.

Waddler, thank you for this, is it fixable? What shall I do,I have clicked on the links but I dont understand the lingo lol

Should I take the computer to someone who knows what they are doing(i know you know, but i dont lol) or will i be able to fix this?

Closed which file should I rename? The HOSTS, HOSTS.MVP, Imhosts.sam, netweorks, protocls or services?

    No, they're just for reference.

I'm just looking at possible causes. If there's no obvious cause, things like this can take time.

We can suggest the easier options, but troubleshooting these kinds of issues can take time and a certain amount of technical ability.

As closed said, try uninstalling BitDefender and see if that makes a difference. As I pointed out, a BitDefender driver is a possible cause for the slow boot up.

Should I uninstall and then reinstall, or do you want me to dump bitdefender and get something else?

Oh yes, just realised-I did also install Open Office (guilty as charged on that)

    hosts

how did you factory restore it before?

have you got any data you need?

if you still have the factory restore partition, doing that, and sticking avast on is less than 30 minutes work.

    Shall I do that now?

I wont be back for at least an hour....

No probs sticking Avast on, had it on a previous comp so will do that.

I did "return computer to factory condition" in control panel.

Havent had chance to save any data so wont need to back up again before the restore, let me know when to do this or to hold on for advice first. Thanks re host file...doing that now.
