With so many problems, the simplest solution is to backup data, create recovery disc, factory restore it from recovery partition using acer erecovery

Thanks closed, but why am i experiencing so many problems? I will factory restore-if that is what is needed but how can i stop it happening again?

It is getting ridiculous now-it was brand new when i bought it and i am now looking at a second factory restore in 4 months!!!

PS The java update has rectified the issue in IE9 on its own but when i run it sandboxed(I uninstalled sandboxie, rebooted then reinstalled sandboxie AFTER java update) the same problem with reloading is occuring.

Feel like giving up and buying a typewriter.

What have you done/installed since the factory restore?

    Are any keys stuck?

The only things have been: Malware bytes, c cleaner sandboxie and bitdefender as installs, until today when I installed java to solve problem in IE9. I did start an online scan with panda earlier but the browser was having all kinds of issues, so i aborted it. Tried to get help on microsoft.com but IE wouldnt allow activeX to run even though i have active x unchecked-i also tried this un sandboxed to no avail.

No keys are stuck at the moment but it is funny you should say that as 2/3 days ago the caps lock key was playing funny beggars but seems ok now.

There's no initial signs of malware so I would rule that out as a cause for any problems.

Is the computer sluggish overall, or just browsing the internet?

The boot up is very slow for the machine and has been for around 5 days-after the acer screen where you can choose boot up menu, the screen is often black for up to a minute before log in page.

The internet is fairly slow at times and there is still the problem in sandboxie. We have had that blue screen thing pop up a few times in the past week it says something about memory dump on(sorry so vague but it isnt on very long)

Other than that it is just random programmes deciding not to work.

Thank you to both for all your time, sorry about this, would just like to use a computer relatively stress free.

I am glad I havent picked up malware though(not my fault?)

Have you got Autoupdates turned on by any chance?

Good point. microsoft issued some big updates today for some reason (usually wednesdays). My laptop didnt like them, and didnt complete the upgrade, but i do mine manually. If you had autoupdate on and this was going on in the background it might well have slowed things down.

is browsing slow since you installed the mvps host file? - if so, rename it to hosts.x and try again.

There appears a few things on there, that dont usually come with a new machine, did you do a full factory restore?

    Try it without bitdefender.

when i ran a vulnerability scan on bitdefender earlier, it said no critical updates were available and I think I do have the critical updates on auto for windows. The only update there was an optional for Bing, so I didnt bother.
