but if my sis has one too we can chat via some other form of video calling?

I'd be interested to know that as my kids are both having one for xmas and will get a kick out of it even if they're in the same room.
  • Yes you can. Clip shows bb versus Ipad for facetime/video calling.

I don't use it often on BB but it works fine.
  • Whats the best way of getting films and music that I already have on my iPad on my Playbook?

I currently have an iPad and my 2 DS use mine, so this is what they both want from santa! I'm looking to buy 2 and cannot afford to have 3 iPads in the house. Is this as easy to navigate as iPad? As I have a 3 and 8 yr old (at Xmas).
Also how can I check that the apps they use are available on this?
Ok so I've seen angry birds is, but how about monkey preschool lunchbox, math bingo, these are a few regular in our house. Handy manny toolbox, fireman Sam?
We were going to buy a pad from china on eBay but I would prefer for safety sake to buy from a uk retailer. It is just going to be used to put apps on then play. Not so much Internet access esp not the 3 yr old.
    Thank you in advance :)

I have used http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/ It's simple, you choose blackberry along the bottom, then select playbook and it converts files ready to upload. A kind person on HUKD pointed me to it when I was getting stuck on a more complicated version. I'm gradually putting lots on there so it's full of goodies by xmas.
  • I am very interested, but a few questions:
    1. If I use to access on line banking can I implement security features on the browser - will it allow all the Firefox security I have on my PC?
    2. Can I run any security features on the PB - eg Truecrypt?
    3. Can I access anonymous internet access if logging into email in hotels etc?
  • Not sure if this answers qus. You can buy and app to transfer everything you have on ITunes to playbook. It is easy to use and the sound quality on playbook is good.

I have used my playbook to log on to hotels internet but chose not to check my bank account whilst away.

Anyone have recommendations for a sturdy cover/case ?
    Thanks again everyone :T:T:T:T:T

I bought this one when it was £15 or so from Play. Might be worth having a search around to see how cheap you can get it.

It's an official Blackberry case and is standing up well to solid use day in and day out since Christmas.

  • I'm thinking of gettting this playbook for my son. He will be 13 in November and I'm thinking of a Christmas present. I'm not very tech minded though, so I hope someone can advise me.

He will use it mainly for games, music, and internet. I have wifi at home, so that isn't a problem, but will I end up spending a fortune on games and music? Can music be bluetoothed from either his sister's Blackberry mobile, or from his own Samsung mobile?

    Are films expensive?

Can he read books on the playbook? He reads daily and is keen to have a Kindle, but would also like a playbook and numerous other things. He knows he can't have everything though, and if this tablet means he can download books as well as play games, music and connect to the internet, it would be handy.

Are there any sites that show 'freebies'? For the Kindle, there is the Kindle user's forum and ereaderiq. I'd beinterested in any sites that will help to build up a collection of games and music for my son without costing me any more if possible.

I know the BBplaybook doesn't have the streetcred of an Ipad, but if it does what he wants it to, he is happy to have this instead - and the memory is amazing!

Any help or advice gratefully received :)
