Via the socket/joint suggested - one plugs into the other making a straight through connection.

But that connector looks like a straight through 3.5mm coupler. I think the SCART lead you posted has RCA/phono male jacks which are bigger.

Um, I didn't check, but as far as I know phono plugs are all the same size. I've had several phono connectors over the years and never had a prob.

No, the phono plugs into phono socket on the converter, the 3.5 end connects into the joint and the plug on the speakers plug into the joint.

A phono jack (as on the end of the Scart lead) is a different size to a 3.5mm audio jack (green connector on the speakers). The solution I posted at #27 is all that's needed but, Linbox, great idea of yours in the first place to use cheap speakers as a headphone amp. :T

You are mistaken, the phono and audio jacks do not connect together that's why you need the converter and a joint
    Please see the edit above
  • OK, I see what you are saying now, SCART/phono lead --> phono/3.5 mm male adaptor, 3.5mm female/female connector, 3.5mm speaker jack.

However the SCART to 3.5mm female in # 27 does the same but dispensing with the adaptor and female/female connector.

Yes exactly what I was getting at.
Yes yours does away with the scart lead, and connectors; which is better - less items to fail/fu - which was the same type as post #6. I couldn’t find one one of those on amazon; but the speakers are still necessary as you say. :D

I solved this for my dad with a scart to phono adaptor and leads to the aux input on his stereo, then plug headphones into the stereo. Now he can watch and listen to F1 in peace!

    I dont own a stereo.

I am a bit confused by all the replies as to what I actually need?
  • One thing I didnt think of, the TV has 2 x HDMI ports. Could I use a USB to HDMI cable from laptop to TV and then plug the head phones into the laptop headphone port?
