i haven't read most of whats written here, but to add i have been paying £5 since having broadband from 2007 this was also billed as £5 FOR LIFE as it came with 2nd line with the free one did not, though they got rid of this a couple of years ago anyway. and that there was a condition that i was on a £30 a month mobile contract which i have maintained for the whole duration, this stipulation was also removed some years ago.

Now, they are getting rid of this and want me to pay more and bring my landline over to them i'm not sure what to do, stick it out with them or go to BT?

I am concerned that once i am in a new contract with orange they will put up the prices mid contract which is what happens with their mobile contracts as we all know, mine ends in September and i doubt that i will get another contract. most of my family who were with orange have left them so i think i might do the same.

So I can see this has been around for a while .. and I feel I have been coming very late to the party.

I've been a buisness customer of orange and then EE since 1994, and like so many other people I accepted their "free broadband for life" offer. At one point we had four phones and data and regular bills of £4-500 a month. After a disastrous upgrade to EE a year ago we were forced to change all our phones to Vodafone. But we were left with a 24 month contract on a single phone @£36 a month.

This morning we got a letter saying they would cut off our broadband on the 9th July. I telephoned the number on the letter and waited 40 minetes for a reply. Finally I spoke to someone and explained that I'd had the letter and could see only two possible outcomes, either they continued to provide broadband until the end of the mobile contract (May 2015) or they would allow us to cancel the mobile contract early as they have changed the terms and conditions mid contract. I spoke first to a chap in the broadband department who said he knew nothing about the mobile contract and could say nothing about it .. except he kept asking if I wanted to save money. So i then got put through to a chap in the mobile department and told him I wanted to cancel the contract as they had varied the terms of the "Broadband for life" and he told me that if I did I would have to pay £345.

I'm pretty sure any further attempt at communication with them will result is a sore head as I don't think any of the poor people on the phones even understand the issue I have EE. One of them said "But you have renewed your contract since 2006." and I explained that the broadband was dependent on me having a contract with Orange and that I did, and he said "Naw it doesn't work like that".

I'll write to them today and send it special delivery letting them know that I'm happy for them to stop my "broadband for life" at the end of the mobile contract that entitles me to it. But that if they disconnect it on the 9th of July then I will cancel the mobile contract, pay the £345 and then recover the money via the small claims court.

Now obviously I'm happy to actually go through with that, but I'm interested to know if anyone has had any observations on this, in theory I could lose £450 odd.

I found "Evas Guide" which is Genius .. in case anyone else is in my position ..
I can't post a link (as an untrusted newbie) .. but it's post 1216 on this thread and if anyone could post a link it would be great ..

    Hi Justin,
Yes Eva's guide is the way to go.
If I was you I would persist with the phone option a little more if you can though, rather than writing a letter just yet.
Make as official a complaint as you can, stress you want it noted on your a con notes and get the name of who you are speaking to - ideally a manager. You want your complaint escalated to the executive team who's email and phone number are listed in Eva's post I think.
Ultimately I think you should get the broadband extended until your current mobile contract expires though some are happy to transfer their landline and broadband over to Orange / EE with the right incentive ( definitely not me though ! ).
Keep us posted as to your progress.
    Cheers

Droow so this was recently was it? I'm in the same position as you but EE Executive Office are not playing ball with me even after going via Ofcom first. You would not be able to remember the name of the person who you spoke to in the EE Executive Office would you?

Well after many moons of keeping my head down and continueing to get my BB for free from Orange / EE I have finally bit the bullet and signed up to BT Fibre BB that has only just come to my area.
I don't know if I was just lucky and I'm the only one of the fighters on here who was promised free for life BB and have continued to get it ?
Anyway I have now decided that the extra speed that fibre will offer is enough to offset the 5-6 meg download speeds I've been getting from my free Orange BB.
I don't think many if anyone looks at this thread anymore but i thought I would post just in case .

I am paying £10 a month for my orange/EE broadband but I too have received notice of termination of contract.

The letter says it is in confirmation of a telephone conversation (which didn't actually happen) and was dated over 2 weeks ago, giving me 30 days notice from that date.

That was it, no mention of other options being available to me, they have lost a customer of over 20 years.
  • Hi Shambler,
My free for life BB - given with pay monthly mobile contracts years ago was supposed to end back in 2012 ( when this thread was started ) after Orange announced that the ' offer ' was ending.
There was quite an uproar at the time as can be seen here.
Can't moan any more about it now though - but I was very pro active at the time.
