Orange 'Free' Broadband

  • I have just signed up to line rental to keep my free broadband. Is it normal that I've not been a orange mobile customer for 3 year now and I still get the free broadband? I am happy to be still getting phone line and BB for less that £14 and have my mobile with giffgaff/o2.

How it going Perry Masons? :)

Without trawling through the entire thread, the odd bits I have read sound like you've managed to get agreement to carry on free BB until end of contract plus a bit of compo as well for some?

Good stuff - shows the 'little' man/woman can make a difference.

I still think that Orange were actually being overly generous offering the free BB to people who reduced their monthly tariff, as well as offering speeds above their stated 2mb limit plus not imposing download limitations. But I guess we live in a world now where people are good at complaining and expect something for nothing.

Hope you think it was worth the bother.

It's the 'little' man/women who pay the fat cat salaries within EE/Orange ;)

'Over generous'? - I don't think so - more like incompetent.

Always worth fighting for your contractual rights :) - call me old-fashioned, but I always stick to my side of a deal.

I would expect them to be in touch in the next week or so with an out of court settlement offer.. In my case, that amounted to penalty free release from the mobile contract, with an additional cash settlement to cover costs (court fees and admin expenses such as photocopying/phone calls etc).
What elements are you suing for? Good luick and keep us posted.

Just be careful if you actually make any calls from your landline, rather than just using it for broadband. Remember that you lose all the inclusive calls that the likes of BT offer, and the connection fees are steep - bigger impact if you only make short calls :(
Well done on the free broadband after ending a mobile contract though - just shows how poor Orange systems are at locating customer holdings!

Still keeping an eye on this thread, thought it had gone quiet for a while when i looked last. Glad that it hasn't, and is still on page 1. Hope everyone gets what they want/deserve without the added hassle of having to actually go through the court procedure in its entirety (although i doubt it given oranges past behaviour).

No more letters for me after the second one saying they were to cut me off again, and hopefully it stays that way.

Although did get a letter from BT using the fact that orange were taking away there free broadband as a marketing technique of their own BB service.

    Hi Everyone

I have just returned from the scheduled meeting with my MP who was interested enough to take up our case and could not comprehend the stance taken by Ofcom on this matter.

He is going to make inquiries to Ofcom on several aspects and will be in touch with me in due course - I will of course update the forum when he does.

Interestingly, he had no idea EE had been given the 4G rollout and was totally unaware it was live.

PS. Still no reply from Ed Vaizey

You raise a good point kstrachan in that Orange are indeed cheaper than other providers when you factor in line rental and broadband. Also everyone is slagging Orange for their terrible customer service and assuming all other companies are brilliant. I beg to differ having twice had dealings with BT, one involving transferring a landline to a new home and the other when the phone line went down at my home. Both times they were a nightmare to deal with and it took ages (at cost to me) to get what turned out to be simple errors (by their engineers) sorted out.

But no doubt I will be lambasted by the part time Perry Masons on here who think they can single handedly bring a multi-billion pound company and its corporate lawyers to its knees with their home brew legal genius.

Well Benno, I must say I am surprised to see you back - I have just been looking back at your posts in this thread, you did not give us 'Perry Masons ' much of a chance did you.

I guess you were trying to give a balanced perspective to the debate ?

Anyway I think that there is a lot to be proud of in this forum, power to the people I say.

All we wanted was for Orange to honour what was promised, although we did not get the free for life broadband we at least got it till the end of our current contracts.

17 sleeps to Christmas everyone !
