Orange 'Free' Broadband

They have to issue it within 5 days, all ISP's do
"If you want to move from one provider to another, you'll need to ask for a migration authorisation code, more commonly called a MAC code. It holds the details for your address and line, and your new provider will need it to be able to move your service. From the date of requesting the MAC code, your existing provider has up to 5 working days to provide this to you. Thereafter the code is viable for 30 days."
I have been waiting nearly a month for advice of a MAC code to give to BT, and I requested it in writing under recorded delivery !0 -

I know this is unfair and nonsensical but if you really want your mac code phone them up and ask for it. There is probably no link between whoever gets the post and the call centers that create the mac codes and no one is going to be bothered enough to try and create one themselves.0 -

OH phoned and our MAC was emailed in 5 days and they said email address will be lost. I did find info on the websites below though, which may help. I have changed mine as didn't want to chance it.

Do you have the original contract ?? if so check the small print for the terms of the free broadband for life, if its printed then you can fight back taking them to trading standards
Good Luck!!

It now occurs to me.... will I lose my longstanding freeserve email address, or can I keep this ? It will be another barb in my side if I have to notify all my address contacts of a new email address. In a fit of pique at losing the business, will Orange also delete this ?
Does anyone have the answer ?
My switch away from Orange went through yesterday. Although I wasn't using my freeserve e-mail address, I was using the freeserve smtp to send e-mails and that has now stopped working.0 -
i have never switched internet providers before, can any one tell me whether i have to get my MAC number from orange?
i have read some where that as the account is being closed from orange i just need to set up a new account with who ever i go with...hm, im guessing that would be a period of no internet while this happens maybe ?0 -

If you have a current broadband provider you need a MAC code from them to give authorisation for the transfer. So yes just give them a call and request it.0 -
I have the original letter from Orange from 1st July 2006, when we still got real bills rather than text messages for the new broadband service.
The word LIFE is not used, however it states:-
"Orange Broadband is here. Superfast wireless broadband for freeeeeeee".
"You've probably already heard the exciting news. Wanadoo is now Orange. This means we can offer customers like you superfast, wireless broadband. What's really exciting though is that it's free."
In the detail T&C's it states :-
"You can get Broadband Plus for free if you're an existing Orange customer on or moving to a pay monthly tariff worth £30 or more a month and in the last 3 months of your current contract".
"You'll need a BT line (you'll continue to pay for your line rental) to get broadband and it's subject to availability, compatibility and survey."
"There is a 2GB usage limit".
If anyone wants a copy of this letter from Orange, 01 Jul 2006, please let me know.
That will be great0 -

As I have already posted, I have tired of this Sisyphean struggle to retain my promised 'free' Orange broadband, and I am migrating to BT........ that is, once Orange provide my long overdue requested MAC code.

Unfortunately yes, I believe this will be the case
I use a web based email address ie @hotmail @gmail as these are not dependant on IP provider.........but I think my wanadoo one will be gone when my free Orange BB is no more......0
