    The OP asked the question.
The OP felt the situation was not fair. The OP only paid £1260, because the shop created an impression that they could not sell for less, when they could.

Not necessarily. The company i work for often get special offers from manufacturers, therefore we can afford to reduce prices at certain times but not others.

If one day you buy , say, a car, and, as soon as you signed £10000 price on the dotted line, the manager goes over to the showroom model and puts the new price sticker of £8000 on, "because it is business not a charity and because you already bound to pay 10K, but now the last one can be sold for 8K", I am not sure you would be happy.

Who cares whether it is fair or not, this is a consumer rights forum not a fluffy bunny forum.

The OP has no rights as they offered to buy the item at £1,260. Why do you have the impression that the shop has to sell at the lowest price they can afford to? You obviously have no idea about business or economics. A business' objective is generally thought to be to maximise shareholder value by maximising profit. To maximise profit you do not sell at the lowest price they can afford to - quite the opposite. They sell at the highest price they can afford to and seek to retain customers (depending on price elasticity etc).

Anyone else want to have a dig at the OP, please form an orderly queue. Or on the other hand you could let this thread die and wait for the next person you can all have a go at.

Or better still you can all be a bit more sympathetic, doubt that will ever happen though.
  • I'm not sure posters are having a dig. It's quite normal for goods to be reduced, I've bought lots of things over the years that have been half price the following week. I didn't expect the companies concerned to give me half my money back.

Oh, thank you! What a refreshing post.:T I was feeling this all the way, not only OP is probably scared to post (how dare he ask about the matter!), but everyone who had the guts to "defend" the OP immediately got accused of "not understanding economics" bla-bla...
Well, for those "who cares?" OP asked the question. Those who "do not care" - why do they post? There is a back button...
Business is about profit, but necessarily not about dirty profit. Othewise every car showroom would be doing the ticket switch immediately after every sale.

Legal Rights to a refund or reduction = no.

Good busines sense to act with a little bit of understandanding...clever customer care = yes

I posted this yesterday on praise/warning/vents for Chain Reaction Cycles...
Been buying a fair amount of bits and pieces off Chain Reaction Cycles over the past month or so, all deliveries turning up quickly and a couple of returns processed quickly without cost.

The other day I placed an order, it dispatched the following day, I got a dispatch note in the afternoon, evening browse of the site revealed the two items I have ordered had been reduced by 30% since I ordered.

Pinged them a mail asking if there was anything they could do, after all don't ask, don't get.

18hrs later, got an email advising I would have a gift voucher issued for the difference - EXCELLENT service, the parts turned up yesterday, the voucher turned up today.

Really can't praise them enough, for me they are as good as Amazon and that's saying something...based on my experience with them.

The outcome of such an attitude? I placed another order last night for over 10 x the voucher price...

And leave the board to the likes of yourself with your poor advice! In no time this board would be like the pets forum all warm and fuzzy (which is one of the few boards you could argue it might be almost acceptable) which would be of no use to anyone.

Because you implied that the company had a duty to sell the item to the customer at the lowest price they could afford to and using this as a defence for why they should have the difference in price back.

Either post advice on consumer rights or go to mumsnet and give some people a cuddle. This forum is aimed at giving advice on rights (which can be a very wooly and grey area in itself but is largely based around facts and laws) but at least we aim to focus on establishing rights and not just wanting to mollycoddle the OPs.

You can give people advice without being rude, so many people ask questions on here and get jumped on by the usual mob.

If you buy something and then a few days later the price drops you do get upset it's only natural. So why do you all need to go on and on about it.

Give advice in a polite manner without ridiculing the OP and this will be a helpful place.

Nonsense. my advice is factual. Nobody needs snakes on forums, whose only goal is to prevent people taking good advice. Be polite.

Corporate, I never implied any duty. Again nonsense.

with proper posters, every forum should be nice and polite, like a company of friends. Rude people are not welcome anywhere.
