Around ov your cervix should feel high, soft and open.

Typically after ov it drops down, closes again and becomes harder. But this changes from woman to woman. Checking your cervix is the most unreliable pregnancy sign there is.

When ovulating your cervix should be SHOW - soft, high, open, wet. When it's hard you should feel it like a nose and when it'd soft it should feel a bit like lips.

Thankyou, that's really useful advice ! Mine's definately SHOW today, and had a huge glob of ewcm (gross, sorry). So dtd this afternoon, then promptly fell asleep for 2 hours, at least that meant i was lying down so the spermies had less effort to make to reach the right place to get jiggy with the egg !

Still no + on the opks today though, i'll try again tomorrow but i certainly feel like ov is just around the corner.

Tink - that is quite a spread ! i can imagine us all stood around with cups of tea, discussing ovulation and cm whilst eating teeny tiny triangle sandwiches :rotfl:

Hello there - I don't post much, but regularly lurk.
I have quick question about ovulation prediction kits I'm hoping someone can help with...

I've bought a pack where you look for a line darker than the "control" line. I've tested a few days and had no line (which apparently means negative), then had a strong line, but not as dark as the control line (which apparently also means negative), then back to very light or no line. So, if you follow the instructions, ovulation hasn't happened, but that doesn't explain the difference in line / lack of it.

    Any thoughts?

    TIA

If the strong line was almost as dark as the control then it could be a positive. have you got a photo by any chance?

When I get a positive the line does go as dark as the control, however if you missed the Lh lurge and caught it just before or after, it may be just you missed it but you did still ovulate.

Becca I was wondering too if we should start a new thread so the front page could be altered.

I just didnt want to volunteer anyone!

Mrs TM - dont worry same thing happened to my DH once. We bded one night, then the next day i got a positive opk so I pretty much asked [STRIKE]demanded[/STRIKE] we do it, and he couldnt finish. I had to try really hard not to get upset because we decided to try again later that night and didnt want to pressure him even more. I was even on here moaning about it. Anyway it worked later on, then we did it the next night, and then I got pg! So i always wonder which time it was from.

It had never even happened before. Dont worry its not about you, hes probably just tired/stressed etc.

Its weird though Ive asked my DH to bd loads of times due to positive opks/right time and its never happened before so it was either coincidence or maybe he just felt extra tired or under stress or something that day. Plus it probably didnt help that hes a major joker and was cracking stupid jokes and doing silly voices whilst we were trying to bd and totally turned off the mood so it was more than likely that in our case! :rotfl::rotfl:

Fannyanna you can use opks in the evening and although it says to hold your pee Ive many times not been able to, peed again half an hour later and theyve still worked.

Thanks! I was wondering at what point the ovulation window would close :)

I understand from what I have read that ov occurs 12-36 hours after the LH surge i.e. the first strong line on the opk. I may be wrong so, ladies, please correct me if I am!

This was the reason we still did a good luck bd when the line had gone back to being faint......

Some ladies do more than one opk a day to really pinpoint the surge but I haven't tried that yet :D

Thanks - didn't take a photo (kicking myself now though!)

So the positive test means that you're about to ovulate, is that right? Is it usually 24-48 hours after this that's best for baby making?

Yes correct. It means you are about to ovulate in the next 12-48 hours so you need to bd as soon as you get the positive - or ideally the day before if youre a mind reader/can tell its coming! Because the sperm can take a while to get to the egg - so basically you want them ready and waiting when the egg pops out.

So as soon as you see the positive bd as much as you can really!

The only thing is opks can't say 100% you ovulated, if you want to know for certain you need to take your temperature every day to check it goes up after ovulation. as you can get LH hormone surges and not ovulate. However this has never happened to me personally and Ive always ovulated after a positive. So I wouldnt worry too much about that - if you get your period about 10-16 days later you can be pretty sure you ovulated. also after ovulation your cervical mucus will probably dry up a fair bit.

Thanks, another thing to look out for :). I've tried temping, but I've obviously got a dodgy thermometer as it varied by 2C at random intervals!

Another question while I'm thinking about it - for the last few months, once I reach the potential ovulation time, I get symptoms similar to pregnancy - feeling queasy, bloated, tired, etc etc. It's a bit annoying as I know it's too early to be a pregnancy indication and usually comes to nothing anyway!

    Anyone else experienced something similar?

I was very nauseous yesterday. I think I've ov'ed last night or today. The ladies are also gigantic (and being a G cup that's saying a lot!).

You can also get a progesterone test done at the GPs which will show whether or not you ovulated that month, and how strongly.
