Trying for a Baby Part 8

Yay MV... Very happy for u. X x
I've done an opk today.. The lines were pretty similar in colour....so I guess I'll ovulate soon.... Which means I will have about a 7 day luteal stage presuming my cycle is the same as always..... So then I went and googled `short luteal stage` ..... And scared myself to death....
This is my first month of testing... I kept forgetting to temp and therefore gave up... But I will definitely be temping next month.
Does anyone else have such a short luteal stage? Is it a problem.?

Hi there,
I have been TTC for approx 6 months, I started casually at first assuming it would be a doddle, but for the past few months I have been paying more attention to dates etc
I have just read from one of the links for the first page and it says that the best time to TTC is 2 days before ovulation... is this correct. If so I feel a bit silly as I have been treating ovulation as the holy grail date.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Many Thanks0 -

Danielley when you say ovulation do you mean CD14 or when you get a positive opk?
It's generally better to dtd 2-3 days before ov because it means that when the egg descends, there are spermies there waiting to meet it and that the weaker ones have died off. If you're waiting for actual ovulation, it's so hard to detect that it's easy to miss and the egg doesn't stick around that long.
If you're going by textbook CD14 ov, then it's not likely as the majority of us don't actually ovulate on that day. Personally, I ovulate somewhere between CD15-22.
And no need to feel silly at all. As we've discovered on this journey, a lot of doctors don't know this stuff.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -

kel - is your lp always that short or are you basing that on cycle lengths?Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
This is my first month of testing so I'm not sure.... My cycle lengths are pretty regular though and I've been charting them for about a year. I don't know whether to just buy a clear blue monitor?
Thanks for the replies ladies... Got myself in a right tizz .... No more googling!
That would be great purcy... Thank u. X0 -

Hi codemonkey,
I mean CD14, I haven't used a OPK yet, but it sounds like it would be worth it, if the dates can vary so much!
Thanks for your advice, and thanks for making me feel better about being so clueless

Interesting thing about our cycles. The follicular phase (pre ov) can vary wildly but your luteal phase (post ov) will always be the same (give or take a day). Try not to worry about short lps just yet and continue tracking your cycle. Could just be late ovulation and AF will be later this month or your lp is in fact, 7 days. Til you know, step away from Dr Google. It rarely helps.
Says me who has just googled whether stomach cramps, hip pains and feeling a stitch in the side are signs of pregnancy at 3dpo, despite knowing that implantation can't happen until 6dpo:o

I wouldn't worry about feeling clueless Danielley, I reckon the majority of us started out not knowing a thing about the real ins and outs of TTC!
I'll now casually mention LP and CD to my friends when they ask me how we're doing re TTC and they give me blank looks because they haven't got a freaking clue what I'm on about! I daren't even mention CM as they'll be mortified!
Kelly, maybe you should wait to see what happens this month before worrying about a short LPAnd always stay away from Google!
That goes for you too Code, you should know better! This is a Zero SS Zone!!!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -

If you've been tracking your cycles, you can sort of pinpoint the fertile time by counting backwards, although obviously it's not going to tell you the actual date of ovulation. Your luteal phase is generally constant and between 10-16 days, so if you count backwards from the first day of proper bleeding you'll get a rough idea. Then it's a question of using opks or cervical mucus or temping or a mixture to track when you're fertile.
When you're fertile your cm will be clear and stretchy like raw egg white. Once you've ovulated it dries up really quickly.
Of course, if you can't be bothered with all that, and your OH is willing, dtd every 2-3 days through your cycle should mean that whenever the egg does pop out there will be sperm waiting.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0
