  • MV - i'll test thursday if AF hasn't arrived. Was feeling abit down last night, but then our new rescue cat decided to take the plunge and try sitting on my lap for the first time. She LOVES it ! She follows me around now waiting for me to sit down anywhere so she can jump on my lap. Even when i'm sat on the stairs putting my shoes on ! Cheered me up just when i needed it !

Have a lovely day everyone, i'll be spending my morning sitting here at my desk as i can't get up and do any housework before work ... i have a certain someone fast asleep on my lap....
  • oooh purcy exciting!!!!

Lilly we got the same 'no further action required' for both his and hers tests. I havent gone back to the GP though perhaps I should. We have been TTC for 16 months now and nothing.

Maybe they would refer you after 18 months? They have not tested my DH at all yet. He's coming to the doctor's with me today so we'll ask if he can be tested before we are referred.

Legend I'd push for a referral to the gynaecologist to confirm the PCOS and discuss next steps, including any help you'd like to lose weight (metformin, low gi etc) and a better idea of what's up ahead ttc wise. I was referred back to my gynae for my (very sodding) irregular periods and was very pleased to discover they didn't care how long we'd been trying (10 months at that point) and were happy to give me all the test needed to give a clear picture of what my issues are.

I'm going back to the doctor today to find if there's extra tests they can do to test for it. I'm not convinced I have it to be honest, because I have fairly regular periods. I know that's not the only symptom, but it's not just that. I'm pretty certain they've tested me for it before and I didn't have it.

Lily the legend - sorry your drs are being rubbish... seems to be a common complaint around here. If you do speak to your GP again it might be worth asking about metformin. It's a diabetes medication but it's often given to ladies with PCOS and can help with weight loss. I don't know the full science behind it but it's something to do with insulin resistance (which in turn is something to do with PCOS). It can lower appetite, and I think it alters how your body processes the food you eat.

The side effects can definitely help with weight loss (you need to stay near the bathroom for a while lol!)

It's also meant to help regulate or kickstart your cycles - this isn't really happening with me but hey, it can't work for everyone.

Thanks for the info. :) I had IBS-type symptoms for 10 years (turned out to be a food intolerance) which made me miserable so not sure the side effects of that medication are something I'd want to experience.

Sorry to hear it isn't working for you.

Well, that's the thing, I do have fairly regular cycles. But maybe I have regular periods, but I just don't ovulate every month. I'm just confused.com at the moment. Hopefully the doctor will help. The one I'm seeing is a different one from the original one I saw and the other who looked again at my results.

LTL - as far as I remember (haven't checked this recently so it might be wrong lol) for a diagnosis of PCO/PCOS they look for two out of the following three things:
    1. results of ultrasound scans showing cysts
    2. irregular periods
    3. results of hormone tests (eg. testosterone, etc)

So it's possible to have regular cycles but still have PCOS. Obviously I hope you don't! Hope it all goes ok at the drs today, x.

  • Morning All,

MV - Congratulations. I really hope this is a sticky one:beer:
Purcy - Good Luck. Got my fingers crossed for you:)

Well I have no idea what is going on with my body. After months of my ovulation getting later and later and getting cycles of 46 days FF has decided to put crosshairs on my chart at 15dpo:eek:. So my 21 day blood test on Friday really will be a 21 day test:p Luckily we have been BDing so we didn't miss it this time

i was told by my gynae that as it's a 'syndrome' it's all very grey and you can have it a little, or have it a lot, but if you have at least 3 of the following 5 symptoms they would say you have it (gynaes, not GPs who aren't specialists and would only go off test results):
-irregular/no periods (possibly long cycles too)
    -ovarian cysts
    -excess body hair
    -acne (especially around the jawline)
-struggling to lose weight and gaining it easily

when i was diagnosed, there was no cysts on my ovaries and the blood tests showed everything was 'fine' enough for the GP to say i didn't have it. but i had everything else so here i am :)
and metformin was amazing for me, had a regular 35 day cycle for the first time in my life and conceived my angel :) x x
