    Sorry for digging up an old thread but I'm having problems with this unit in my 96 Fiesta, if anyone has any suggestions.

    After swapping the red and orange wires it works fine and has its memory, but when I turn the volume up beyond 20 or so it blows a fuse. It's the 0.5A fuse on the orange wire and the guy at Halfords said to just stick a 1A in there, but I'm a bit concerned that that's a bad move safety-wise.

    It's still at £29.00 by the way.

    He is correct when you swapped the wires you should have swapped it before the fuse not after thus keeping the fuse on the correct line.

    Mine has no fuse as of now becuase i made the same mistake.

    Thanks Tom

    I think I understand but can I check that I should have switched the wires between the fuse and the loom on the stereo's wire and not between the fuse and stereo?
  • Hello chaps, I've just tried to install this into my mums Peugeot 106 (a pressie) and the radio doesn't seem to work - it powers on, plays CD's, but the radio's dead.

    Took it out and put it into another car (that doesn't need the aerial adapter) and the same thing, no radio but everything else okay.

    Any ideas?

    Ring customer services.. I did when I had a problem.
    They're very helpful..
    I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!
  • Yeah I might do, just thought it might be another 'quirk' of this model :D

    Cheers anyway dude.
  • Can anyone tell me if they are the now universal double plug fitting, ie the 2 connector blocks that allow you to fit a mini loom in your car to save chopping wires... know what I mean?

    Hi,

    The stereo uses the standard ISO connector blocks, 1 for speaker connections and 1 for everything else.

    The only problem that does occur is the slight variations that occur in the ISO 'standard' regarding the +12v permanent live (sometimes labelled battery) and the ignition switched +12v. This is why others have mentioned switching the wires over.
    Thanks
    Rhys

    Right I finally got this system installed into my car, but I have the memory loss problem, where its reset the clock and stations every time I turn the car off.

    I've looked through this thread and also a thread on AVforums but the descriptions on how to swap the red and orange wires vary quite a bit, some say you swap the red wire in the fuse box with the orange, some say you swap them at the iso block end, and im now completely lost on this.

    So i'm hoping someone here who has managed to sort out the wires can give me a simple step by step guide to doing this!??!

    This is a rubbish diagram of the wire loom that comes with the stereo,

    |______| stereo end
    |||||||
    |||||||
    |||||||
    |_______| fuse
    |||||||
    |||||||
    |_______| end that connects to iso adapter

    please could someone tell me at which point on this loom i swap the wires, and how?

    Thanks in advance!

    After switching the wires (incorrectly) I had the memory back but blown 0.5A fuses a-go-go so I took the advice given in this thread a few days ago. I'm happy to say everything is working fine after properly testing it today.

    What you need to do is switch the orange and red wires between the fuse and the iso adaptor end (where it's 2 lines deep in your diagram). This will mean that the fuse stays on the correct cable.

    My mistake that Tomlewis007 pointed out was that I'd done it between the stereo and fuse, so that the (I'm no leccy so forgive my vague terminology here) main power feed (red wire at stereo end) was going through a 0.5A fuse rather than the 5A it should have.

    That at least is my take on what went on and it fits with half a dozen popped fuses once I played anything other than low volume radio.

    Before I realised the mistake I'd made I emailed customer services to ask about a possible replacement and today they just replied saying they are out of stock. Shame, as now I've finally got this thing working I'd say for 35 notes it's a bargain.

    I swapped the Red and Orange wires on the connector that connects to the car ISO adapter - you can release the silver connector pins from the hole with a small screwdriver and just swap the wires over. Do this on the loom that comes with the radio with it unplugged - no danger of shorting anything out that way and you don't touch the wiring in the car.

    That worked for me - car is a Suzuki.
