Very sad news - DD2 lost her baby last night, very early miscarriage so the whole family is upset today. She is young and has been assured that all is in good working order so she can try again soon, however it doesn't stop her (and us) from grieving for the child we have lost. Sigh.

Oh dear I am so sorry to read this, Dot. ((hugs))
All you can do is ensure SonInLaw understands that DD will feel the physical effects of this [hormone changes] for at least three months, and urge him to be understanding when DD is upset or behaves in a way that seems irrational to him..

And perhaps there is a little comfort to be gained from knowing that almost certainly something had gone very wrong as the babe was developing; that child - and his/her whole family - has been spared much suffering..

Hello Diary and Dear Friends, on this our good friend NewLeaf's birthday, :hello:

Well, my day yesterday took an unexpected turn; all the boys got in touch to wish me Happy Mummy Day, then DS3 and DIL turned up to invite me out for dinner. :)
The arrangements started getting complicated though, because DGD arrived [with her Dad], needing a bath - if the quantity of dirt was an indication, she'd had a great time playing with her cousin! :D
I was also starting to feel tired and feverish - the thought of going out was not appealing, so I suggested that DS3 could cook us a meal here.

Luckily I had a couple of 'special' key ingredients in stock for just such an occasion, and DS3 loves to cook, so that's what we did. :)
I spent rather too much time following him around, putting things away and cleaning up as we went along, but that was my choice and I enjoyed it. Having taught DS most of his cookery skills it was lovely to share a kitchen and work with him again, but letting him take the lead.

The meal was far better than the one we would have been given in the bar, and was also very MSE of course. :) DS and I had Barbary duck breast while DIL chose a salmon steak, all with Cointreau orange sauce, coconut rice and a warm Parmesan and garlic salad [oranges and greens from the garden]. Profiteroles for pudding. Writing it down the combination of flavours sounds odd, but everything worked together very well; it was delicious! :D

If we'd visited a local restaurant for that kind of meal the bill would have been around £80 with drinks and a tip. It has amused me to work out that by having a little foresight - which allowed us to cook [and do the washing up] at home - we've saved £65! :D
  • Aw your day sounds fab and your dinner sounds sooooo tasty! Sooo lovely that you got to share that experience in the kitchen with DS again :)

    Plus very MSE :D

Thank you for your lovely message, Robin, and your very good advice - sadly my thoughts were centred around DD of course, and mine and Mr Dot's loss, you are so right, I MUST contact him and express my regret and pass on your wise words.

What a lovely Mummy's day you had, how absolutely lovely, I am thrilled for you, I expect you are still thinking about it today which is always a marker for a memorable occasion. You still sound to be under the weather though, hope you start to feel better soon

Just had a quick catch up - your poetic renderings of the scenery around you are making me hanker after a nice foreign holiday in picturesque surroundings! The incident with the fire sounded really quite horrific, well done on such fine decision making in such a bind. Glad to hear you had a lovely Mother's day, in my opinion you can't beat a bit of home cooked food and surroundings that you know. xx

Yes, wasn't I lucky to have such an unexpectedly good Mother's Day? :)
Am doubly glad we didn't go out though, as have been paying for it today [technically yesterday]. Felt so rough I had to fall back into bed around 2pm, finally sleeping off m' thick head.
Wonder if this is the same bug as Her Maj is suffering from?
Don't need a fire tonight as am baking hot, even with a cold wet tea-towel draped round m'neck. But just as well because it was long after dark when I came to, so hadn't fetched up any dry firewood anyway. Daft Dogs are not impressed. :o

    Still, it's been a good fast day - there's a positive. :)

Decided to have another look at the finances tonight and realised I made a mistake <sigh> curses, shouldn't try and do important things when feverish.
Hmm, wonder if I can shift an ISA a couple of days after opening it? :o

Right. Think a mug o' drinking chocolate with a drop of DS' Baileys is called for - try and sleep a bit more; hope to wake up in synch with the birdies and look forward to a more productive day tomorrow. :)

Hello Diary and MSE Friends, :hello:

Greetings from a grey and gloomy hillside. It's not actually raining but must be close to 100% humidity because we're getting wet just by standing outside for a few moments. I can see across the valley, but the village, town and sea are lost behind cloud.

My fever has broken so am freezing; need a shower - it's top of the list after lighting the stove, so I've splurged - turned on the electric water heater. It will be hot by the time I've brought up a double load of logs and then we can all enjoy the luxury of a warm house before sunset (ha, won't be a sunset today).

Yes that's good advice - will try and remember next time, lol, but there are so many days when I feel under-par that sometimes things can't wait. And then I make mistakes. <sigh>

It's beginning to look as if I'm going to have to cut short my winter in Andalusia. That is a prospect am not yet ready to face, but may be unavoidable. Do I pack up the whole circus or try and arrange things so I can just fly back for a brief visit, then return here for long enough to harvest my spuds?
    Decisions, decisions.. :)

I'm sure whatever decision you make will be the right one, but if 'back' means to the UK, then I'd advise as short a visit as possible. It's blinkin freezing here!! Xx
