Hello Diary and Dear MSE Friends, :hello:

Thank you everyone for your kind comments, :) yes I was very relieved and grateful to get out of that [literal] hot-spot! :D (Though if the log had not come free, I would have been able to put out the fire with an extinguisher - all my kitchens are equipped with 'em ;) would have made an almighty mess - so am also grateful not to have been faced with that! :D).

omg glad you are okay Robin please be careful... My husband tripped and fell onto the wood burning stove he still has the scars very nasty.... x:o

Oh Bast, that's awful; poor Hubby! Of course on a narrow-boat the stove must inevitably stick out into the living space and there's not much that can be done about that, bar keep the floor space around it as clear as possible (ie. dogs allowed on bed/sofa but not in front of stove!).
Hope Hubby can regard his scars as marks of a life lived to the full, and I'm sure they don't make any difference to your love for him, Bast. :) Expect you already know that if he's been left with 'tight skin', aloe vera or Bio O!l can improve that a lot, and also reduce the visibility of scarring.
..Somehow I suspect that an aloe vera plant can be found on your boat - am I right?
Here's a prediction: In twenty years time, every family will nurture an aloe vera plant at home - it is such a good medication for burns, skin problems and more. :)

Am very late getting going today, as we didn't get much sleep last night. At first I thought somebody was letting off fireworks, but the noise got closer and closer as rain started to fall. Soon it was clear that a huge storm was sitting right overhead; crashing thunder and the bangs of lightening strikes were simultaneous - it went on for hours. No point in trying to sleep through the deluge, so I lit candles and turned off the main power fuses (just in case). At one point sirens sounded; peeped out to see fire engines and police heading up the other side of the valley - someone must have suffered a direct hit!

Eventually the storm drifted off to the east at about six am, and the sky slowly lightened although it wasn't really a dawn. The birds have stayed silent today, which tells me we're in for more of the same. Managed to sleep for a few hours, jammed on the couch with my head forced to the left by pillows (to try and release muscles I must have pulled when extracting that over-sized log from the stove. It seems to have helped; will repeat tonight ;)).

Daft Dogs know there's no chance of going out in the van today; they both dodged the showers to nip outside earlier, and are now fast asleep on my bed. :)
How long can I delay a trip to town, through circumstance SIZE="1"]track too dodgy[/SIZE or choice SIZE="1"]don't feel up to it[/SIZE? Am certainly clocking up plenty of NSDs! :D

As it's the end of the month I've had a look at the finances. Was amused to see the only non-0% CC is actually in credit, so will do something about that. Next month I must remember to put some of the DDuties fund into an ISA, then again in April to get the better rate. Sometimes I feel PC willing me on to make his savings work a bit harder - do still think of it as his money, lol.
 The rest of PC's fund should probably also move; after hours on the main MSE site am dithering between S@ntander and H@lifax.. :o (Comments and suggestions welcomed :)).

But right now, need to find something for brunch that isn't toast 'n marmite..
  • I think when it comes to savings accounts, one provider isn't particularly better than another, except for their interest rates. I have horror stories about both S@nt@nder and H@lif@x when it comes to debts or banking, but as a savings customer you should be fine with either. Just make sure you have less than the FSA covered amount with any one bank or their associated companies. Xx

I love Aloe Vera and have used it for years.... My mum introduced it to me and she heard it from her friend in America in the 80`s in our house we call it "ello vera ":rotfl: Yeh we are nuts.... I actually do not have the plant but will look into that...Bio oil is fantastic but so expensive.:o
I love my o/h with all my heart and I dont care about any scars, he is my best friend and we are joined at the hip. Some people find it sad, but I dont care.. I love his company and enjoy being with him.. I always cherish our time together............:D
That is why I feel for you over PC and for Three dogs... I cannot even begin to imagine how much you miss him....:o
As for the banks I would not touch Santander they are so chaotic... A real shambles of an organisation.
    Storm sounds...
 hope you dont have more to come xx

Re banks, I cannot find a reasonable thing to say about S@ntander so I won't but I could without much prompting say a lot of uncomplimentary things about them which I won't as it raises my blood pressure. H@lifax so far seem ok but then it is early days for me!

    Hope neck eases up soon.

We also have Ello Vera in our house (and have since childhood!) and as I currently as sporting a mega burn on my arm (wrist to elbow) have nearly decimated it poor thing.

I reckon you need to put off the trip til next month
