  • Don't forget it isn't only the large packs that are the cheapest. Some times the smaller sizes of products work out the cheapest

I have not had to buy any of the following for 3 years:

    Tea leaves
    Fairy washing up liquid
    Basmati Rice
    Chapatti flour
    Detergent
Does your Chapati floor last that long ? I noticed the flour going bad 6 months after best before date.

This is great - atleast I am not the only one, glad to see so many other do stockpile essentials when see good bargain offer. If i know we need it then it will be used i do buy it - however a good tip make sure for consumables you check the use by date and dont get caught out.

You can store it in the freezer when it starts to get near it's date.

I bought 48 tins of chopped tomatoes for 8p each on the reduced shelf in Tesco last night - in date until end of the month, but as we all know tinned food is perfectly fine months and even years after the BBE date. All nicely stacked in my shed and will probably keep us going for bolognaise and the like for 6 months or more.

A few weeks ago I got 3 huge carrier bags full of various breads in Aldi which were all reduced for about £3 the lot - popped straight into the freezer and have kept us going for sandwiches and toast nicely.

I go several tubes of toothpaste in Wilkinsons for 16p and packs of 3 toothbrushes for 6p - then for some reason at the till she discounted them again by 75% so I think it cost me about 40p for the lot !

Wagg guinea pig food was on offer in Wilkinson's recently for much less than their own brand so got quite a few of those too.
  • I regularly shop at Costco and Blakemore's cash & carry warehouses. I know I can spend over £400 each time but it really saves over the long run.

I buy huge washing powder boxes, 5L Fairy Liq, Bisto powder, fab cond, vinegar, red & brown sauces 5L. Trays of tins toms, cooking sauces, huge bags of pasta. All largest sizes I can fit in the car boot.

I don't remember the last time I did a big supermarket shop, because just for the odd small thing I use Lidl's where I use cash & a SMALL trolley

    Condoms on eBay.

Yes. No, they're not used :)

Durex in my case - compromise on price only.

Many months ago I worked out that there were weeks when I was spending nearly as much on condoms as on wine. Now that's a wrong balance.

I dawned on me that i should always check eBay and Amazon for retail alternatives.

Don't really bulk food that much. I do have fridge and cupboards constanyly full - that's more for freshness and spoil-variety (and lazy absence of planning too). Once i start a family, i'll surely get tempted by the high street/online bulk options...

That said, i discovered that bulk buying wine can bring you much better quality at comparable "high street" price. Naked wines are probably my favourite, because of their business model.
