I tend to make a list of what I want to buy in Costco on My Supermarket (No, Costco ISN'T listed on mysupermarket. It's to check if the Costco price is better when I get there) and then go to Costco with the list and check out the prices against supermarket prices (I take a calculator too).
I bulk buy their meat (excellent quality) and divvy it up in meal size portions into freezer bags and freeze. I go twice a year (there are 2A & 2C in my family) to buy the meat, unless there's a meat MOC listed on Addicted to costco. She uploads the MOC booklet to her site and you can see what's on offer before you go.
We get through Coca Cola like it's water so we bulk buy that in slabs of 24 cans, freezer bags (of course!), and rice.
Although, watch out as some of the electricals AREN'T always good value (I use Invisible hand in my browser to search for better prices). I hear their customer service is second to none so I guess you have to make your own mind up.
As everyone says you need the storage space and that's one thing I do lack (unless you count the conservatory that looks a lot like a warehouse a lot of the time!)

Please can someone tell me where 'savvy buys' is on My Supermarket? I can't seem to find it. Thanks.

Only discovered this myself. Click the price tag with the £ sign and click savvy buys.

Some times Amazon have good bulk buy offers, just got 50kg of pasta elbows, 50kg of rice, Branston beans, catfood, dog food, its not always reduced in price so you need to keep looking on the site, washing powder from ebay, 2p per wash, fairy washing up liquid from Amazon and Mr Muscle, also along with huge amounts of Rockstar drinks for the teens.....
I have the sites apps on my phone so its quick and easy to look at random times for these offers. Also the best bit about ordering from Amazon is its always free delevery.......

mysupermarket isn't always the best choice when it comes to getting the best deal.
example whiskas fishermans choice 12 sachets, most shops £3.33 aka 3 packs for £10 according to them, however pets at home 48 sachets for £10.49
lidl's are also not on the list. 38 ariel wash £5, they only show 45wash at asda's for £9.50

OK, I’m not going to go for the obvious ones here, as above, but a very good one…baby formula…and from 1 place only.

1 – under 6 months formula is never in an offer (possibly for legal reasons, I think).
2 – it is always the same price (we get Aptimal and it is £9.49)
3 – the midwife said there, for under 1 (when using formula), the ‘from birth’ one is as good as any.

Anyway, Morrison’s is the only shop who do not stipulate that you can include it in their £5 off a £40 spend when you buy a paper (Mirror or Sun)(Tesco and Asda exclude it from all offers). It is the only way to save money on this product and if you’re going to use it, it’s worth it. I usually get 5 in a go (one tub lasts a couple of weeks) and instead of being £47.45 it is £42.90 (paper cost included). You’re looking at a 9.5% saving! Better than nothing and I do this separate to my normal shop…usually end up buying 2 or 3 of the same paper!

Anything non-perishable is fair game and tbh I've been known to get fresh stuff and freeze it (eg whole salmon on quick sale at Mr T's for £8 - split it into 10 good-sized portions for the freezer). As a rule I tend to go for the fairly expensive goods that you might only buy every few months.

My tip is to shop with a list (which is a good MS tip anyway) and include some standing items with a "target price" and only buy if you can get this price. My standing items (which are now etched in my memory they've been there that long) include:
    • Reasonable quality toilet rolls (ie not economy) 33p each (ie £3 for 9pk or £4 for 12pk)
    • Fairy non bio gel £3 sm bottle £5 lge
    • 12x100g branded cat food pouches £2.50
    • Baileys £10/litre
    • Nappies 10p each
    • PG Tea bags 1p ea
    • Ribena £2 per litre
    • McCoys S&V 6pk £1 (check sell by dates)
    • Simple baby wipes 84pk £1
    • Any decent ale £1 bottle:beer:
Just be careful to make sure you will definitely use what you buy - we have enough nappies to last us into next year and we're starting to think about potty training!

Just looking back over that list, it reflects a far more lavish lifestyle than I would proclaim to have (fairly healthy, make-do-and-mend, economise at every opportunity etc)
  • I started bulk buying washing detergent from Ebay this year and am very pleased with the quality of what I bought and with what I saved, someone on here gave me a link. I've been thinking of bulk buying washing up liquid too but still undecided what to go for. The unbranded seems better value but will be false economy if I end up using more of it!
