If that's the case I have no idea how my friends managed to marry in a garden.

There is generally an arch or somthing that can be the licensed venue

Well that's just ridiculous. You can't have a beach wedding but you can get married under arch. The law is completely an !!!!

The rules are pretty strict in England, but not so much in Scotland:

In the UK you can only get married at licensed wedding venues, all of which are indoors.
 Would you mind explaining that to my 'wife'.

We got married here, the registrar didn't seem to mind :D

Yes. North Devon. Do you think I've got a get-out clause? ;)

Apparently you have to get married under a "permanent structure", but the definition of this is gradually becoming more relaxed.

You can also get around this by having the wedding ceremony separate from the signing of the register.
  • Shiny76 that looks so beautiful.

Presumably you got married underneath that bit at the top with a roof. That's the 'structure' which presumably was licensed. You can't get married just 'on the beach' or 'on the hills' without there being some kind of structure which is licensed.

We did. Just about. I was just trying to be funny/pedantic about the whole having to get married indoors thing.

I understand (as Roz has since said) that it has to be a permanent structure. What passes as permanent seems to be fairly lenient, going from the gazebo!
