Dear Brallaqueen - lovey, believe me when I say to you gently, the 'what if's?' and the 'if only's...' have the greatest power to hurt you - please do not blame yourself for an illness you didn't cause. You certainly did treat your lovely Rupert and he had a lovely, happy life with you. If I say to you that cats have an incredible capacity to hide illness from even their loving human slaves, does that help a little?
Right now you are at your lowest ebb, everything hurts and nothing seems to matter at all. But you are amongst friends here (and in 'the real world') and we all know how hard it is to have a beloved animal friend PTS. It's probably the worst, most painful, most alien decision any of us have to make, ever. Ever. You have been so very brave, though right now (I know) it doesn't feel like it.
Sending loving thoughts out to you...

Oh Brallaqueen, so sorry to hear of your loss
sending big hugs your way!
Please don't blame yourself, you didn't kill him and you weren't to know (hugs)I have a simple philosophy:
Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches.

Thank you everybody for your kind and comforting words. made it through the weekend and although the pain is still fresh and raw, I am seeing a bit more clearly now. I can't change what has happened I can only move on and learn from any mistakes. If I could thank your replies 100 times I could, you are a wonderfully supportive community.
All the best to you and your loved onesEmergency savings: 4600

We all feel an element of guilt every time one of them goes, and we always wonder if it really was the right decision or if we should/could have spotted something sooner. I lost my ginger boy last year (blood clot - his back legs stopped working and he was in a lot of pain. Was extremely out of the blue. One minute he was fine, the next he was gone
). The pain still is immense. I know we shouldn't have favourites, but he was one hell of a cat and I miss him (and still talk about him) lots.
I still have Lottie and got Morris (a ginger and white boy) a few months ago who we love to bits. He's turning out to be quite a character.
Probably a bit raw, but don't rule out getting another. Some people feel the need to grieve for however long, but I can't walk round an empty house talking to the walls so give another homeless cat a lovely happy home as soon as I can. Did just have Lottie on her own for several months, but it didn't feel right for me just having one.
