I kind of sponsor a little blind kitten in a foster home in POland - was fopund at 4 weeks old by a rubbish skip with his eyes so infected that one had to be removed immediately and the other one will be removed later - blind on both AND had part of his little foot bitten off by whatever (rat?).
It is amazing how the little one copes how he jumps high up on a cat tree, uses scratching post/toys and is generally absolutely brilliant...
Blind cats cope very well
Good you found each other

Hi Charlie3090, it's very kind of you to ask how he is. He's getting well spoilt between me and the housemate. I shall tell him he's very lucky to have a fanclub and kind people who are thinking of him
Thankfully, he seems to have settled in very well. He's becoming very vocal for one - short sharp meows that sound like "me! me!" and we can't resist talking back to him "Who's ginger?" "Who's greedy?" and so on.
We've had to put a cover on the leather sofa so he can jump up of an evening- he slid off it on his first attempt:rotfl:
He is still in serious need of a comb. I don't want to be the one to hold him down as the fosterer said he hates it. I don't want to break the bond between us (cue wussy moment)!
I have noticed that he is shivering on occasion. Why, I'm not sure. It could be nerves I guess but the housemate has noticed it too. I'm googling as we speak...Emergency savings: 4600

you could start gently brushing him with a soft, so very lightly so that he gets used to the feeling.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!

if it is mats and not just combing, i wonder if it would be worth taking him to a groomer?
Only because he won't associate the grooming process with you, and your bond can continue to grow.
obviously that might get expensive in the long run but maybe just for his first go?
also, congrats on your new addition. : )0 -
Awww he is such a sweetheart! I'm glad he is settling in with you!
My old boy Mittens was blind for a while and it's surprising how happily they get on with it. He'd still bump into things but he didn't lose any of his curiosity or interest in life or general 'catness'. I'm sure he'll be really happy with you!0 -
Hi Brallaqueen,
glad to hear hes settling in ok ,soon you(and your housemate) will be his loyal servants lol,
im sure the shivering is nothing to worry about,he would have had a real good check up before he was homed, maybe give the rspca a ring
just to check?,
the post about using a soft brush sounds like a great idea, would just feel like being stroked maybe.
how lucky he is to have found you,im a great believer in fate and you was meant to be his mum,

If there are mats IMO get them cut out by a groomer who does home visits, he will look a mess but it's quickest and hopefully least stressful. You might then purchase a grooming glove/ mitt? It probably won't be enough to lick his coat into shape but it can help them get accustomed to something that is more than stroking, will remove some excess hair and some cats really enjoy the massage effect.
