Please, we so want to be kept up to date! Dear Rupert, you are such a sweet and needy boy - but I bet you teach your new Mum a thing or two about love xx0

this thread is sad and happy at the same time. Rupert looks a lovely old boy although his fur coat is still a bit rough but that will change as he gets good food and a warm comfy bed.
Cats are such beautiful intelligent and "characterful" creatures, how could anyone ill-treat or neglect them like that ?
Well done for taking him into your home, the benefits will be mutual.0 -
He is gorgeous. Hope he settles, just give him time and lots of cuddles.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

He looks a beautiful, gentle old soul. And he'll look lovely once he's had a few square meals and some regular combings. I adopted a long haired cat from the rescue a few years back, he'd been sleeping rough too and a lot of his fur had to be shaved off, he was so matted and dirty. Three months of TLC turned him into a big glossy ball of fluff. He's an indoor cat too btw, I've got three, and as long as they get plenty of attention and love indoor cats do just fine. What's the alternative for them after all?
Incidentally Rupert might like a little pot of living grass to nibble now and again. Long haired cars are prone to furballs and the grass helps with this.Val.0 -
Aww, he looks lovely.
Can't wait to follow his progress with you.
Great idea about the cat grass, I use this stuff

You might also want to buy a Feliway spray

so you can lay a happy-scent trail around your flat.0 -
Wowwwwwwwwww.. what a hansome boy - i LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ginger boys....
Glad he found a home with you, may you have many happy years together.
Imagine how much you gonna save on heating with a cuddly purring blanket like that LOL0 -
Oh bless him, poor little sausage, don't you just want to cuddle and stroke him all the time to make up for all the bad times. He's a lucky boy to have found you.0

Well done for giving a beautiful cat a forever home. Bet he's been overlooked so many times.
Can't believe someone would abandon him!The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
You're all very kind, thank you. Your support had been amazing and I'm learning an awful lot from reading posts on this board. Again, thank you all.
Well, it has been 24 hours and he has found his food bowl and his litter tray without much problem (no solid waste until about 2 hours ago but finally went and it was ok, not runny).
He's a bit shaky, snappy and grumpy today which is to be expected. Not wanting to be petted much and being very definite when he's had enough.
He is also a canny little thing - he knows when I go through the kichen door, my BIL came round and noticed that he sometimes sits and 'watches' the door.
It is a bit strange when he raises his head and you get a good look into his eyesockets. I'll get used to it. I'll spare you pictures from that angle

Maybe just leave the petting for now, he might be wary of of a hand approaching that he cannot see and is not (yet) a familiar smell, he can't even see your body language. Get him used to your voices and scent over time and the fact that you are the source of all things tasty, then work on closer contact.
