Well done, Gemqueen, for making a start on sorting out your problems. Trust me, we've all had them, & we've all had our bad days where we thought that things couldn't be any better. But they do, & with the support you'll find here & on other forums, you will get through this. Definitely don't feel ashamed - it's keeping quiet about our embarrassment that got a lot of us in this position in the first place. If you have a question or don't know something, just ask - no question is a stupid one, & someone's bound to either know the answer or where you can get more info.
You've done your housing benefit & council tax claim forms, which is a great start. The SOA is the next one - don't be daunted by it. We can all help you go through what you need to put down - I've just done mine, so I'm more than happy to let you see it on here or by PM if you'd prefer. PayPlan & CCCS aren't going to judge you - they'll just give you honest advice based on the info you give them. No-one here's going to judge you either, so please keep posting. Even if it sometimes feels like it, you're really not alone & you don't have to deal with this on your own either.

Gemqueen, I am so glad you came back an posted again. I was really worried about you last night so thank you for putting my mind at rest (along with everyone else here
)
Please don't be ashamed, these things happen and at the end of the day no one you owe money to is going hungry are they, it's not like you have killed someone or hurt anyone. When you put it into perspective owing money and not being able to pay it back in the way you expected is pretty small in the greater scheme of things.
I have DMP with cccs, and they have been fantastic, they are really easy to deal with, have always done everything they have promised to when they promised to do it, they give you a realistic amount to live on and so far I've found it pretty easy to stick to. So much so that when I have my first review with them in a couple of weeks I'm hoping to be able to slightly up my payments. I think cccs are a bit more flexible than payplan when it comes down to the amount you make in repayments. I think Payplan have a minium amount of £100 per month, were as I only have £93 per month disposable income and cccs still accepted me. You can also apply for a DMP over the internet with cccs, I didn't have to speak to and advisor to set my DMP up it was all done online and through the post.

Gemqueen I too am pleased that you have posted your reply. It is an uphill struggle coming to terms with things, but, hey, you have started. As Confuscious said 'The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step', and you have already taken several steps.
Give your self a well deserved pat on the back.

Hi Gem,
Just wanted to say WELL DONE! You've so much already even if it doesn't feel like it. It's so brave to admit your debts but you did it! Big hugs! It's a long raod to being debt free but if you feel in control it will make you feel soooo much better!
So much good advice has already been said, but be proud of yourself for taking the first steps to sorting it all out.

Banks and creditors want you to feel ashamed: that's how the get their money back. If you google news IVA you'll see what they have said in the past about bankruptcy etc. In business and even with individuals bankruptcy (106,00+ last year) is quite a common occurrence.
Bankruptcy everyone is doing it. With £1.5 billion worth of unsecured borrowing I think you will not be alone and certainly should not be ashamed. Child molesters etc should be ashamed, not someone who has had financial problems. Chin up. It may seem daunting but remember this A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.GSF

Well done GemQueen, good to hear from you! From this point on there will be ups & downs, but you can carry on as you have begun & you WILL be debt free!
BTW You can go to the CCCS website & fill in all your details & they will email you an advice booklet. There is no obligation and it is a good starting point. I did this to begin with as I simply could not face talking to anyone about my debt :eek:Proud to be dealing with my debts :j

Everything's been said but I just wanted to add that I am really glad too, that you came back & posted.
It was so good to read your progress and to read that you got some sleep.
Please don't be scared of the CCCS or PayPlan. Just remember these wonderful people help folks in similar situations every day, they will not judge you or look at you in a 'personal' way.
Good luck for all your future steps honey.
