Enough is Enough

I have had it.

I cant cope any longer.. I have no way out except to leave this world.

I have accumulated debts that I am unable to pay, and I can't even afford to feed myself. I wish I knew why I let it get to this, but I dont see any other way out.

I was previously unemployed but managed to get a 24hrs per week job in a surgery, I have asked for more hours, but they are unable to offer any more. I am on £6.20per hour. My rent is £68.00 per week, I am behind on rent/mobile/electricity/gas bills/council tax, and credit cards in total I owe at least £30,00,in credit cards and store cards alone - with no way of paying them off. As soon as my salary goes in to my bank, it is eaten up as I have accumulated a huge overdraft. I am currently looking for 1) another full time job 2) another job to supplement more hours.

I have read some other issues on the board, but I feel, mine is so severe (I mean I am struggling to feed myself)! that its all not worth it.

I feel so bad about the situation I am in, but can see no solution. - The bank has refused to give me a loan, to at least cover the overdraft, which would free up some money to pay bills.

I have no assets - home/car etc.... so I am unable to go for bankruptcy. I have put in motion a claim for unfair bank charges recently, but this will take time.

I am not sure why I had to write this, but felt compelled to. I apologise to everyone for taking up space on this wonderful site.

I'm rubbish at this type of thing, but Gem, you don't need assets to go bankrupt you know :)

Have a look at this site for some help :)

There is more to life than money, there is always a way out even if you think you're drowning in debt. There are plenty of solutions left to you.

Don't give up. Do you have anyone you can talk to?

One of my best friends owes £60,000 and has no real assets to speak of, unless you count her car and clothes totalling maybe £6,000.

She's gone down the insolvancy route through a debt plan, they have written off a large chunk of the debt, frozen the interest and has given her much more room to breathe financially.

List out what you owe on each card, make a list of what comes in and what goes out and then post it up for people to help and advise.

I swear half of the pressure seems to be removed when you know exactly where you stand financially (even if its bad).

Hello Gemqueen. Im sorry that things have got to this state but nothing is worth taking your own life for. I think you should post your SOA here in detail so that the fine people on this board can have a look at it and maybe suggest ways that you can help yourself. There will be stuff that you can do so please dont give up hope. Debt is a terrible thing and its like having a chain around your neck but dont give up. You have to try to fight your way out of this situation and you will receive a lot of reassurance on here. So please carry on posting and dont worry about taking up space. You are the kind of person that this board is meant for.

I hope this doesn't mean you are contemplating anything silly. Now that you have joined our site we certainly don't want to lose you.

There are numerous ways to supplement your income and others will advise you as to what they are.
For my part I just want to tell you that being in debt is not the end of the world. You can declare yourself bankrupt and the majority of the debts you have mentioned (except Council Tax) will be wiped out.

Talk to us and we will help you every step of the way. Take all the space on this site that you need. Every one here has stood or is standing excatly where you are now - you need not feel isolated on MSE.

You have already taken the first step by posting here and there are procedures to deal with the rest of your problems.

Do not apologise to anyone. It is what this site is here for. First of all hugs :grouphug: I am really sorry you feel that way. You have made a good start by looking for a better/another job good luck with that. Also good luck with claiming back bank charges. Could you speak with your bank again to see if they would at least stop charging interest and charges on your account then maybe see if they could reduce your overdraft slightly each month until it came down. I have done that before and got them to reduce the over draft each time I was able to pay something in so that it wasn't available to use again iykwim.

Also go see CAB. They have loads of experience with this sort of thing and will be able to help you loads. I don't know if cccs or payplan will be able to help as you need to be able to pay at least £100 per month to your creditors. You can try a diy dmp and national debtline will be able to give you more advice on that.

Someone else will be along in a minute with more information but hopefully this will help a little

  • Welcome gemqueen, much help and advice can be found here.

You need to change your priorities, you matter much more than your debt, it is only money owed to companies who do not care about you. You need to switch things around so that your basic needs for shelter, heating, food etc are met, THEN whatever is left goes to debts. If nothing is left, so be it, make a token payment of £1 each & they will have to wait.
YOU are what is important, what matters & there are ways to deal with it all, believe me! Contact CCCS or payplan or Citizens advice tomorrow & they will advise a way forward.

It is not worth leaving this world for debt, please believe me. There is loads of advice to be had on this forum & many ways to go forward. Remember your debts are the LAST thing on your priority list, your health & wellbeing are first.

    Hugs & best wishes
