    Darling it's only money!

First of all you need to make a list of priorities, rent, council tax and feeding yourself are priorities. Loans and credit cards go way down to the bottom of the list. Mr bank is not going to starve if you don't pay him.

Open a new bank account and get your salary paid into that. From the new bank account budget what you need for your rent, council tax food etc. I probably wouldn't bother making any more payments to the creditors other than maybe £1 per month token payments. If you have some left over save that, you might need it if you decide to go the bankruptcy route, for fees etc.

Check you are getting all benefits you are entitled to https://www.entitledto.com is great for that, fill in all of your details and see what it says you should be getting, if you are not getting it, get claiming!

We are all here to help you and will hold your hand through this, most of us have felt just like you at one point, I know when I came here I felt life was a pile of poo and I had no way out, but together with the guys on this board I found a solution and now I am debt free. There is always an answer, sometimes though we just need a helping hand to find it xx

    Dear Gem

How much money have you got left for this month? If you haven't got enough to feed yourself, can a friend or parent help you out (e.g. cook for you) until you get paid.

Secondly, stop making payments to your creditors (the ones for the loans and credit cards) - they can wait for their payments and they certainly will not starve in the meantime.

You must ring all the energy suppliers and your council about the fact you cannot afford to make any payments until you get yourself sorted out. Ask them if you can make a token payments of £1 but only after you get paid. Most of them will be sympathetic - make sure you speak to the right departments (Collections if you've missed payments).

If you feel that there is a bigger problem and it's more than just your debts (maybe you're depressed), please speak to a doctor today. They have counsellers at CAB too.

If there is absolutely no way you can pay off your debts in a realistic timeframe, you should consider bankruptcy. The fact that you have no assets is a bonus for you. Look at the website for National Debtline and UK Insolvency Helpline for practical advice (they have loads of info on bankruptcy).

Please stop worrying, there is lots you can do - starting from now. And everyone on this thread will be here to support you along the way. Money is NEVER a reason to take your life - you are worth more than that.

Just wanted to send hugs as well so when you come back hopefully you will see this thread and see how much everyone on here cares. Take care of yourself and believe me this despair will pass - you will get there. Go and get some help from your doctors and maybe phone the Samaritans. We'll all be here when you get back.

gemqueen....please come back and post again.

    We're all worried about you.

I've just caught this thread and realise you must be feeling so cr ap right now and everything must feel like an uphill struggle.

But you can't think like this - you must talk to your Doctor and people who can help you feel better and then tackle the debts.

I'm sure we can help you with the latter.

Please come back and talk to us, you will get support.
