Is anyone exercising and finding it much easier? I do some stretches and haven't done in for a while before starting the diet, started doing them again on the weekend and doing many more reps than usual. I would expect to do some more but not this significantly and not after having done them for a while!

Might starting running again soon and see how that affects my PBs

I weigh myself twice a week, this has helped me define my "water weight" band. Instead of automatically thinking I have lost fat!
  • I have now completed 3 months of 4:3 which includes a 10 day 'holiday' period. I have consistently kept to 550 cals or less on restricted days and 1600-2000 cals on 'relaxed' days. I have lost 18lbs and gone down 2 sizes in trousers. Yippee!! My blood pressure is down by 25-28 points and I'm hoping should be at the high end of normal if I continue to lose weight. Not had another blood test for inflammation as no real 'joint' problems recently so GP not interested in scheduling them. I feel much better in myself. More energy, less sleepy, managing to do gentle exercise and not broken my routine once except for my 'holiday'. I intend to continue with this for as long as it takes to reach my 'goal' weight (Probably 12 months) and then to maintain using the same method by doing either 5:2 or 6:1
As far as I'm concerned this is the perfect lifestyle for me..I can't see any reason to change it.
    :T2013...nothing..still hoping though!!

Well as I go on with this 5:2 diet it seems to be working better and better. I am now steadily losing 1-2lbs weight in a week. I am down to 9st 1lb and I haven't weighed this little for over 20 years. I cannot believe it as I found it so hard to lose weight before.

I think if it doesn't work at first then persevere with this diet as it has to sort out other issues in your body too.

  • Having started this 'diet' weighing more than 15 stones, today I finally saw the bathroom scales display a lovely 13 :) . I seem to be losing about 1lb per week, which isn't a lot but it's consistent and the little increments are adding up to make a huge difference. I've grown to look forward to the fasting days because it isn't difficult to produce food which is tasty and filling as well as low calorie.

This regime also gives me a sense of achievement, a pride that I am in control of my body. It's a positive for my body image and boosts my self-confidence. I've come to regard the 5:2 diet as less of a diet, more of a life-style that I want to follow until the end of my days.
  • Well done everyone! Wow...some really fantastic progress!

I'm losing at a much slower rate but that's partly down to the fact that I took up martial arts in August and am gaining muscle like crazy. Still, scales squeaked under 70kg this week for the first time in about four years. Five off, ten to go :)

Just a quick question, if anyone can advice me. I've been on the 5:2 diet quite a while now, and I am losing weight steadily. As I said in an earlier post, I went away for a week, and put some back on, but wasn't concerned, as I lost it after. My question concerns the amount of calories. I am supposed to have no more than 600 calories on my fasting days, but some days, I can manage with under five. I noticed on one of these occations, I didn't lose anything, but gained. A colleague, who's husband is on the points method, says that he is the same if he doesn't have the total points he's supposed to (or near). Do I need to get as near to 600 to achieve anything, or can I get away with 50o? Or does my body stop eating up the fat, because I haven't consumed enough?

    I think it's a coincidence.
I consume as little as I can get away with really ( I like to know I could have an extra snack if my stomach is rumbling too much)

I think you are correct. The 500 and 600 calorie limits seem to have been arbitrary figures pulled out of the air. I suspect that they have more to do with what the minimum average man or woman can cope with without feeling feint or chewing the legs off tables on their fast days, than any scientific research. I know my wife has had a lot of success with this IF diet (4:3) and she also eats the bare minimum on her fast days, probably less than 300 calories, if that.

If memory serves me right, the Horizon programme said that 600 and 500 calories are the levels at which the body goes into 'repair' mode.
