If memory serves me right, the Horizon programme said that 600 and 500 calories are the levels at which the body goes into 'repair' mode.

I'm not sure what 'repair' mode is but I still suspect that 500 calories is a rough guess that will apply to the 'average' woman. A degree of experimentation will be required to fine tune the intake to suit individuals. 500 calories may be too little for an active big framed woman weighing in at 18 stone and far too many for a sedentary petite lady weighing half that.

I'm really pleased with everyone elses brilliant weight loss.
BUT I'm so jealous! I weighed myself at the gym this morning and I'm exactly the same. STILL. I just hope my blood pressure will show an improvement when I finally get around to getting a GP appointment. I've been putting this off till "next week" for months in the belief that my weight must also fall off which would be nice before I next see the doc.
I can only conclude that I am either an alien or overcompensating on non-fasting days.

Maybe you are doing something wrong. What are you eating on a typical fast day and a typical non fast day?

    Afternoon everyone.

I thought I would give the 5:2 a go, had been doing 16:8 fast but kinda got out of the habit :o

My first days fast has gone well so, haven't felt so hungry I needed to chew the arm off a chair, which if I am honest has quite surprised me.

Can anyone suggest any good recipes? I would rather cook from scratch rather than rely on low calorie ready meals etc. if any me has any favourites I'd love to see them :)

    I like soups...
I've made a spicy lentil soup (available on tinned tomato blog.:D)
and my own pumpkin/sweet potato/red pepper curried soup.
Basically, I think it was around
    400g butternut pumpkin
    150g sweet potatoe
    2 red peppers
    1 stock cube
    1L water
    curry powder.
Boil all together. Liquidise. It made around 4 portions.

I love leeks at this time of year, so I just chop them, microwave until tender and add a spoonful of light philadelphia and teaspoon of bovril.

Not grand cuisine but I keep that for the feast days.:D

I seem to have reached a bit of a plateau at the moment, but will persist.

Tend to have a veg soup meal on Mondays and then something liker a small amount of pasta with a tomato/mushroom sauce or beansprouts with mushroom and a small bit of sliced chicken breast on Thursday. I do try not to overeat on the other days, just tend to carry on much as I did before.

Always have my Sugar Puffs and skimmed milk for brekkie - surprisingly low in calories - one of the least fattening cereals!

There's quite a few good recipes in this thread, but you'll have to trawl through it for them. I particularly recommend the Beef in Oyster Sauce :) .
  • I'm really boring on my fast days I just have a boiled egg & soilders for brekkie & heinz soup for tea, I can't be bothered to do any cooking although I do cook a meal for my family but normally something they like & I'm not bothered about, though I have thought of doing a bit of salmon with soy sauce & chinese 5 spice! lol.
next week I'm going to add a 1/2 day fast to my week as I have some partys coming up. apparently you don't eat until tea time, then just eat normally from then & you'll have a nice flat tummy for your party outfit!!!
I'm on week 7 now and have lost 8lb so far, I have never stuck to anything this long before!:rotfl:
    HOW MUCH ?

On my fast days I have two brazil nuts for breakfast and a satsuma for lunch washed down with milky tea. Dinner is my main meal. I usually have a piece of chicken breast and a corncob or tuna with green salad with a homemade garlic, olive oil and lemon dressing. This is all I eat and it is working for me.

I don't get hungry at all on fast days.

I've discovered the reason this diet is so easy. Yesterday on a fast day my husband offered me half his chocolate bar. In the past I would not be able to resist even on a calorie controlled diet. However, on this diet it is so easy to say 'no, I'm on my fast day I couldn't possibly eat that' very assertively and it is true, when you know you are on a fast you just know you can't break it. The rules are so crystal clear.

Exactly because you know that the next day you can have a treat:T
