No calorie counting, no fuss.
no, I think the whole idea is to switch your body in repair mode and it does that if you keep your energy intake below the limits of 500/600 kcal for women/men.
Very happy with so far... Lost 4kg in 5 weeks.
Not so happy though that DD is making mars bar cookies (baking right now) and I'm on a fast day....:cool:I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

We thought we would try I.F. and the 'eat, stop, eat' principle, which does involve not eating on fast days. We do 8:2, so a fast day every four. Our last meal is dinner, then around 21 hours later, we break with dinner - basically go without breakfast and lunch. As long as you keep drinking, it's pretty easy, once you get over some breakfast tummy rumbles.
I should have started it earlier, but I've been plotting our daily weights on a graph for the last 3 weeks and there is def. a pattern, my husband has lost 4kg in 7 weeks, and 2% body fat (15% to 13%, so he wasn't exactly fat anyway).

Hi SueSw
I've found mine has - I always leave food on the plate now, which never used to happen before!
I started doing this on 13th August and so far have lost 18lbs - I'm hoping to make it to 1.5 stones by Xmas.
I've found that I have bags more energy and actually feel a whole lot better, but I've also been cutting out caffeine too. I think that in itself has made me feel a whole lot better.
I still do alternate day fasting.
Sal
xI've been fasting for two days a week for three weeks, and I have lost a stone. :-) I re-started Slimming World at the same time - every time I go back on plan with SW, I get a great loss the first week, so 9lbs that week didn't surprise me much, although don't get me wrong, I wasn't assuming it would happen, and when it did, it was great! :-) The next week I lost 5lbs, and the week after I maintained. Given that I'd had a weekend off, that was actually a good result!
I feel really good on the 5:2 split, and I don't notice being hungry very often. I am drinking tea and coffee with skimmed milk during the day, with some miso soup for lunch (from a sachet), and not eating at all until 6 or 7pm. I'm trying not to eat really unhealthily at that meal, but it's not necessarily pure SW, whereas the non-fasting days are. I've noticed I don't feel the need for a huge meal on fasting days, and I feel like my appetite is getting smaller, which is good news, because I struggle with portion control.
I haven't had my BP or cholesterol tested yet, but I will be due for an check-up in another couple of months, so I'll find out then how my BP is doing. I feel much healthier, and I have loads more energy, even on fasting days.
Is anyone else finding their appetite shrinking?0 -
That's good to hear, thanks, Sally. I've just hit the 1.5 stone mark, which I'm pleased with. I now have a couple of challenging weekends, so it will be interesting to see how far fasting in the weeks between will compensate! Good luck with reaching your goal before Christmas - it sounds like you're well on track.0

Sorry to sound thick, but what is GND? I know I will feel stupid for asking:oStopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
I use myfitnesspal's free app on my phone. Nice and discrete and it gives a little graph so that I can see what my average daily calories for the week are. Even eating whatever I fancy on feast days, once I stick to a 500 cal limit on my 2 fast days then my weekly average is perfect for my goals.0

It makes me laugh when people get all hung up about the use of the word 'fast' in certain contexts..this eating lifestyle is about health and not the English language and its application, however by the very word Break- fast one can assume that 12hrs without food must have been considered a fast at some stage in our History! In 'Medical terms' eating less than 500cals for women & 600 calories for men within a 24hr period is considered to be so far below Basic metabolic rate of the 'average' person that they may as well 'medically' have not eaten at all, in other words if you want those calories have them because metabolically they are not going to make much difference except to keep your vital organs 'ticking over' for part of the day, for the majority of the period your calories will come from stored glycogen and fat.
So those who get all 'precious' about their water only 18-24hr fasts are not actually achieving much more in health benefits than those on VLC days who will probably have had only 500 cals over 36-38hrs.
So lets not get too hung up on this eat or not eat, fast or semi fast, whichever you choose is OK & so far the research seems to say -just as beneficial:T2013...nothing..still hoping though!!0 -
I had a similar thought, although I personally prefer finding different names for things rather than using incorrect ones. So, I did a 'fast' day on Friday, but I allow myself to be fairly liberal with drinks. This worked out at around 500 cals for me, depending on exactly how many cals. were in my morning tea and coffee. I therefore call my 'fast' days 'liquid' days.
I think it's fine that people are doing their own versions of it, and it's great that they're getting results. The proof's in the pudding, so they sayIt feels good to have a successful day and that can have a huge affect on the psyche! For those that do it to lose weight, it's a fab way of doing it, because many can fall foul of portion control but this way is idiot proof: there is no portion to control :rotfl:
Off to make a coffee now. Looking forward to lunch time soup, and hot choc. (Options) tonight (with some oxo and lots of green tea and water throughout the day).0
