What are people eating on their non - fasting days? I think I need a pointer on how many calories to consume on those days. On my fast days I tend to have a bowl of home made soup at lunchtime and one at dinner time.0

I eat what ever I fancy, but strangely I don't fancy what I think I fancy on a fast day! I think I'm going to want a bacon sandwich, chocolate & crisps, but when it comes down to it, cereal, sandwich for lunch & a nice dinner with lots of veg. I tend to try & listen to my body which seems to no longer crave the unhealthy things it did before I started fasting, but it's good to know if the family wants fish & chips or pizza for a treat I can have it guilt free. I also still cook receipies from my ww cookbooks mainly because we enjoy them but it's good to know they are healthy and l/f.

On my non fast days I eat porridge for breakfast, I am not overfussed about lunch, sometimes I just have a few buttered crackers, a plain yoghurt and a piece of fruit. I always have a good dinner and dark chocolate for dessert although sometimes I have a mince pie, or a mini Magnum or half a Mars Bar. My dinners are anything, i.e. lasagne, macaroni cheese, spag bol, curry, chilli con carne, roast, cottage pie, fish fingers and mash and beans. My appetite has shrunk so can't manage a lot of food.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

On fast days, I use a calorie counter book to calculate exactly how many calories I'm consuming. These books are very cheap and readily available from retailers such as Amazon. The one I use isn't as comprehensive as I would like it to be but such information as it may lack can be found on the internet very easily.
I see the headline in today's Daily Express says that eating a low calorie diet 'will add years to your life'. It looks as if research from the USA is continuing to point to the benefits of low calorie diets, although it was difficult to tell from the report if this research had been peer-reviewed. I take most science stories in the tabloid press with a large dose of (low calorie) salt! Nevertheless, it's encouraging.
I might start making a conscientious effort to count calories on non-fasting days. Mind, that doesn't necessarily mean I'll do anything about consuming fewer calories on non-fasting days! As was said earlier, it's easier to stick to the 5:2 diet knowing you can sneak a little indulgence on non-fasting days.0 -
I use Sparkpeople to track fast and non fast days, it does mildly tell you off off for not eating enough on fast days but it's a usefull tool and does all the adding up for you.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I use myfitnesspal to track the fast days as they were the ones I was worried about going over. I'll extend this to the non fast days too, I must be eating more than I should be as I'm not losing weight.0

If you (not specific to anyone) are following the 'horizon' 5:2 then eating on a 'fast' day is fair enough, but I still don't get eating on a 'fast' day, as it's not a fast, which I thought was the whole idea??
We thought we would try I.F. and the 'eat, stop, eat' principle, which does involve not eating on fast days. We do 8:2, so a fast day every four. Our last meal is dinner, then around 21 hours later, we break with dinner - basically go without breakfast and lunch. As long as you keep drinking, it's pretty easy, once you get over some breakfast tummy rumbles.
I should have started it earlier, but I've been plotting our daily weights on a graph for the last 3 weeks and there is def. a pattern, my husband has lost 4kg in 7 weeks, and 2% body fat (15% to 13%, so he wasn't exactly fat anyway).
No calorie counting, no fuss.0 -
I'm confused. How does your system involve not eating on fast days? I may have interpreted your post incorrectly, but you seem to be eating at least dinner every day.0
