5:2 diet

I fasted from Sunday somewhere roughly around 10pm-ish.. tilll breakfast this morning (30/10). My, that omelette tasted good! (eggs, Kale, bit of cheese. M-M-Mmmmmm!!!)
Anyway, I woke up with a headache this morning, and... erm... let's just say that, contrary to the issues I've had with low-carbing, I did not have constipation...
Other than that I felt......... well, not much different really..
I haven't felt the need to binge today and look forward to doing another 'fast' day this week. All I had on my fast day was oxo, bouillon, cuppa soup, and green tea. Oh, and a decaff coffee with Alpro unsweetened Almond milk and............ a generous splash of Whiskey!(It was going to be just water and green tea with lemon, but after my recent eating naughtiness, I had to be a little more lenient...)
Dunno where it's all going.. getting older, feeling older, low-carbing is great, but hard when no-one else you know what's to do it with you, or even worse, looks at you like you're a weirdo......... we'll see........
The main thing I like about this idea is in a 'Primal' kind of way... our distant ancestors may have caught a......... Mammoth? and eaten it over a few days, since they would not have been able to preserve it well: then they may not have had a good meal for days, or longer possibly...... thriving on the odd bit of fruit or whatever that they could have found...
So this for me.. 'fits'... I think changes and keeping our metabolism guessing is a good thing... the regularity that we're all so used to is not where our bodies are...
OH brought Whiskey home, which was rather welcome after I tried to 'improve' my first-ever pumpkin soup effort which my youngest gave a 10 and my eldest gave a 7, then they gave a 2 and 5 respecitvely (post-'improvement'... (me and OH both thought it was better, but overall the 'pre-improvement' soup won..)........

I agree. It feels more natural, and, well, normal to not have to eat if I don't want to just because our society and culture prescribe 3 square meals a day. I've now been doing 5:2 for 3 weeks, along with weight lifting/a little cardio 3-4 x a week, and have lost 4lbs!:) It's just so simple, I find myself having so much more time to think about other things, rather than food.0 -
On my 5th fast day now... and loving it!
I've lost 2kg too, which was very welcome as I had tried previously tested method to shift the overindulge from the summer with no avail.
I've noticed that I eat less during my normal days. Part of it is a concerted effort not to obliterate the results but eating less doesn't leave me feeling hungry any earlier than it used to. And I still indulge in a bit of wine or chocolate.
Somehow, I think I can now distinguish between cravings and hunger. And I'm full of energy on the normal days ( but can be a bit tired on fast days).I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
How is everyone coping with the colder weather?
It's always easy in the summer to sweat weight away and live on salads, during the cold it's always harder as your instinct is towards a full belly and for the weight to cling on!0 -

I'm finding it quite hard. I feel cold on fast days - however, being cold is supposed to speed up your metabolism and burn off your brown fat.:)
I haven't done it yet but on a winter fast day it would be warming to have a 40 calorie hot chocolate drink made with water. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
I have a few nice blends of herbal and green tea that I really like, and drank about 8 cups on my fast day yesterday. Really helped with the chilly and empty belly feeling and counts towards water intake.
Had my dinner in the evening - looked forward to it all day. I know everyone is different, but I was so happy that I kept my meal until the evening. Would have been gutted if I'd had a big breakfast and then nothing else.
Thought I'd be ravenous today but am fine. Had breakfast, wasn't hungry enough for lunch and had HM lasagne and salad with a glass of wine for dinner. Oh, and two candy minis from the trick or treat bowl0 -
I have noticed almost from the start that I feel cold on fast days, so by now I've learnt to compensate. I wear warmer clothes (well, really just thicker socks and boots) and drink hot green teas.
This season is great for hot soups, which are usually low in calories as well (or I omit the fattening cream/butter/cheese when preparing them!). Today, I had 2 bowls of clear chicken broth, and some raw purple carrots with peanut butter (just a couple of spoonfuls are very calorific, but nutritious as well)Cogito, ergo sum.0 -

Hi All, I'd like to join in please? I've not read the whole thread yet but hope everyone is seeing benefits?
I tried alternate day fasting to lose weight before I got married and decided that I liked doing it, I didnt feel so bloated and generally felt a bit "lighter", if you know what I mean? I just felt like i was doing something good for my body, besides the weight loss.
So I've decided to incorporate fasting into my long term way of life, I just re-started fasting today (took time off for my honeymoon and ate far too much). It was difficult this morning to get back into it but feeling fine now! I'm thinking of doing ADF for the first few weeks to get my body used to fasting but then dropping it down to 5:2. Has anyone else done this?0 -
back in the 10st category for the 1st time in 7 years - forgot to use the tape measure as I think inch loss is also a useful guide, not just the scales - I've been 5:2 on & off since September (when I say off, I mean 3 separate weeks without doing it 'cos of hols) & this morning I've hopefully left the 11's behind for good - in that time I've lost half a stone which I'm really pleased at as I weighed over 12 st 18 months ago before they decided the big H was the way to go (sorry guys). I decided to go primal in the New Year so 5:2 as been preparing me as I've been using up the grains & oats & not replacing them. Trying to low carb as much as poss but Sept/Oct in our family is very birthday/ aniiversary heavy & there is no way a new regime will stick over Christmas - hope to have more of a chance next Christmas when the family will be used to more primal eating.0
