While weightloss is obviously a factor, and the prime motivation of a lot of posters, the Horizon program also went into the dramatic effect that IF has on IGF-1 and the resultant health benefits. So it's not quite as simple as just a weightloss strategy.
the only reason I'm doing this diet is for weight loss, anything else is a bonus, I have been trying to lose 1st, then 2st, for the last 15 years and finally feel I'm doing something that seems really simple. I've carried on exersising on my feast days and seem to have a lot more energy for this. What I'd like to know is when you reach your ideal weight (hopefully) how do you maintain your it ?
    HOW MUCH ?

    Eat more.

Actually, you might find that the closer you get to your goal the slower the weight comes off and may even stabilise itself because the less you weigh, the less energy you need just to exist.

Apparently, Dr Mosley has reached this stage and doesn't want to lose any more weight so he has gone down to 6:1. I suppose this would retain the health benefits.

Today I was shocked into realising this diet does work for weight loss as well as health. I wanted to buy a pair of black corduroy trousers for winter and reached for my usual size 14. However, as my jeans were feeling a bit loose I decided to try the size 12. I didn't think for one moment I would be able to do them up but I could and they weren't tight either.

Still haven't got rid of all the stomach fat I would like but going the right way.

where did u read about Dr Mosley reaching his weight please?
I really struggled with my fast day yesterday, choosing a day when I was out at the theatre was a big mistake. I thought cos I was out I wouldn't be thinking about food. but where as if I was at home I would have gone to bed early, I didn't get in till after 11 and was famished, I won't be doing that again!!!!

I'm not sure. It may have been on this thread but it was someone who was following him on Twitter.

I found yesterday the most difficult so far and I think it was because it was cold. The temperature shifted suddenly and I think people are hungrier in the cold weather.

The first two times I fasted I developed a fever. Think it was my body burning off infections.

Hi Slowlyfading: there is evidence that for some women fasting is not good and not beneficial. This was discussed in the early pages of this thread (with links I think).
So look after yourself and be sure it is right for you, and ultimately life enhancing not life diminishing.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

But eating 500 calories isn't really fasting is it?
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time
