alyssa_mae wrote: »the book came this morning. Its by Jacqueline whitehart & it is called the 5.2 Fasting diet. It basically takes you through your first few weeks, giving you tips like not to excersise on fasting days ( a mistake I have already made!). basic calaries, sugestions what to eat on fast days. lots of reciepes and tips to get you through the fast days aswell. It's quite a nice little book to keep in your bag and you can keep referring to it whenever you need to!
This is from Mark's Daily Apple - he does Primal(which I do not, but found his site very informative):

And this is from another very informative site(especially his article on Ten Fasting Myths),but orientated more to serious weight training:

Edit: 52 pages! That hardly merits being called a book. I suppose others will be jumping on the bandwagon soon.
Apologies for my cynicism.HOW MUCH ?0 -

Thanks tesuhoha
2nd and last fast day of the week today. So far so good 25 g porridge oats made with water rather than my usual boiled egg.
I don't think I was doing anything different on non-fasting days than usual although logically there must be some reason why I haven't lost weight over the period.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420 -

I think weight that stays off is very slowly lost, just as it is gained. I only eat one meal on fasting days, it used to be breakfast, then lunch and now it is dinner. I'll be interested to see whether I have lost/gained anymore this week but my fasting day is tomorrow.
Are you weighing yourself the day after fasting day? That is the day you are supposed to because other days you may gain water etc from your food which may add weight. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
Well I have no idea how it happened, but I have lost 2kg
Alot of turmoil food wise over the past 6 weeks or so, had a severe cold so didn't fast until I was recovered, Granddad died and I ate very little for a week after, then had a severe flare-up the night of the funeral (one more food to add to the "never eat again list")!
Since then I have gone down 2kg (not during which is odd) and I am thrilled, it is huge for me. I am back to 8:16 daily and trying to be good about what I eat. Always room for improvement though!
Haven't lost any in the past week but I haven't gained any either (for a time my weight seemed to trickle up no matter what I did) so I am pleased.
I have taken a zero tolerance approach this week to my main weakness, ie instead of trying and failing to be reasonable just had/bought none. Has been hard but shown me I can do it.
Hoping for a few more kg off before Drs appointment end November and January after that I hope to be substantially down. Otherwise I will ask for a Dietician referral.
I certainly like fasting as a lifestyle choice and intend to carry on.0 -
Question. Has anyone had any positive feedback as regards health markers; cholesterol, blood pressure changes, etc. since starting?0

I've been fasting for two days a week for three weeks, and I have lost a stone. :-) I re-started Slimming World at the same time - every time I go back on plan with SW, I get a great loss the first week, so 9lbs that week didn't surprise me much, although don't get me wrong, I wasn't assuming it would happen, and when it did, it was great! :-) The next week I lost 5lbs, and the week after I maintained. Given that I'd had a weekend off, that was actually a good result!
I feel really good on the 5:2 split, and I don't notice being hungry very often. I am drinking tea and coffee with skimmed milk during the day, with some miso soup for lunch (from a sachet), and not eating at all until 6 or 7pm. I'm trying not to eat really unhealthily at that meal, but it's not necessarily pure SW, whereas the non-fasting days are. I've noticed I don't feel the need for a huge meal on fasting days, and I feel like my appetite is getting smaller, which is good news, because I struggle with portion control.
I haven't had my BP or cholesterol tested yet, but I will be due for an check-up in another couple of months, so I'll find out then how my BP is doing. I feel much healthier, and I have loads more energy, even on fasting days.
Is anyone else finding their appetite shrinking?0 -

My blood pressure went down 20 points fairly quickly after starting the plan but has not reduced any further in the last month. My inflammation markers ESR, CRP and PV tests are still raised but reduced. My cholesterol was always low.
Joint pain has radically reduced and this seems progressive, not sure if this is due to the diet or to weight loss.
My memory has not improved:)
My appetite has definitely reduced and now I rarely 'binge' eat. I still make rotten choices on occasions BUT now I don't always enjoy eating unhealthy foods as much as I thought I would.
I now recognise 'true hunger' as opposed to food 'cravings!!
All in all I shall continue because: I find it easy & apparently beneficial.
It has become my normal 'way of life' and with a downward weight 'trend' has completely reversed the direction I was going in.:j Has to be good!:T2013...nothing..still hoping though!!0 -
I started this lifestyle change last week. I was amazed how less bloated I felt after just one fasting day, which I must admit was very hard but the 2nd fasting day was alot easier. i weighed myself and had lost 3lb!
yesterday was my 1st fasting day of the week, I started the day with hot water & lemon and had a small bowl of mixed fruit at about 1pm and a tin of heinz vegetable soup at 6pm & drank plenty of water throughout the day. I actually cooked my family chicken kiev, mash & veg & made them sit at the table whilst I sat in the front room and enjoyed my soup! My next fast day this week is Wednesday. I thought after a fast day I would be tucking into crisps, chocolate, cake etc... but find I actually don't want these foods. I have also had a flare up of my U colitus(not due to the fasting) and need to take some steroids so I'm waiting till thursday before taking a short 3 day course because I know these make me extra hungry so I don't want to be fasting when I'm on them. I found out my brother has been eating like this for the last 6 weeks and has gone from a 36inch waist to a 32inch!!! His friend has also lost over 2 stone on it as well!!!!HOW MUCH ?0
