Sorry I may have got this wrong but what you seem to be describing is one meal a 24hr period/day which is not 'nothing' and is that meal limited to 600 calories?

No, I fast for 24 hours. If I finish eating at say, 7pm on say, Thursday, then I won't eat until after 7pm on Friday. That's a 24 hour fast!

I guess its different from the 5/2 diet suggested on Horizon - more in line with that on Eat Blog Eat http://bradpilon.com/weight-loss/intermittent-fasting/intermittent-fasting-what-it-means-to-me/

    Hi all

My colleague sent me the Eat Stop Eat ebook last Friday, and I was intrigued, so I did a 24 hour fast from 8pm Fri to 8pm Sat

I am amazed that I did not suffer any hunger pangs at all, so have done it all again today :)

I was full of energy on Sunday, and have managed ok again today with no food - I am drinking lots of sugar free squash which appears to be keeping me going

A few people I know are doing the 500 calorie thing, but if I eat at breakfast I have to continue eating, so by having nothing is working ok for me, for now

I have read the whole thread, in 4 massive reading sessions, and have found it to be very interesting!

I am also on the cutting down alcohol thread, so doing this helps that :D

I will be a dedicated thread follower from now on

This is a weird diet. After an initial weight loss of 4lbs my weight has been stuck at exactly the same including ounces for the past 4 weeks. However, I just measured my waist, hips and bust and I have lost inches. I am therefore going to carry on as i want to lose the fat round my waist, nothing else really matters as much.

Thanks for that. I weighed at the gym yesterday and seem to have put back a kilo! very dispiriting but I do feel that my hips are smaller. Not able to verify that as don't know starting measurements.

Will plod on though as surely by reducing my week's calorific intake by around a quarter something must shift!!!

  • I have been doing intermittent fasting since end of July. Prefer this format (at least 16 hours fasting, but have gone 24 with ease) rather than to reduce calorie intake on some days. I have never been fan of breakfast as it would make me ravenous 30 minutes after it, so not having any food till afternoon suits me fine. So far lost nearly 19 pounds without any increase in exercise and I only do some walking around town due to long standing back problems( only allowed pillates and swimming and cannot honestly afford either at the moment).
I have always had very healthy diet so no changes there, maybe less bread and now I take my morning double espresso without sugar(but it tastes so much better with it :( ). Still quite long way away from my ideal weight but will continue this way and will try and find a way to go swimming on a cheap as I love it. And maybe stop baking and have one square of dark bitter chocolate instead.

Maybe you have put on muscle. Lean muscle weighs more than fat.

OOOH What a lovely thought. Have been doing just my normal exercise though or perhaps less gym and more walking. But thank you.

Can I ask what are your fasting hours?
    Trying to keep in budget.

If I am at home I stop eating at 7pm. Still drink water and green/oolong tea. Always start my morning with double espresso and then just keep having tea/water if feel hungry. If I am very hungry ( usually if last night meal was more carbs than protein) I have food at noon - 17 hours fast. If not feeling hunger I will continue fasting till later in the afternoon. Done few 24 hours with ease , especially if been eating out a night before, but tend not to go over 24 hours. If I am away for the weekend/staying at friends then just try to go with their schedule, but still only have coffee for breakfast.
Feel great, have loads of energy and weight is coming off proportionally from all body parts - feel like I am 'shrinking' , so quite happy to continue with it for foreseeable future. Due to have some blood tests soon so would be interesting to compare to the ones I had just before starting fasting.
