I'm also doing alternate days, started on 13th August and have lost 12 lbs so far. Had my BP done the other day (it's always been high in the past) and it was 125/88 - very happy with it all so far.

  • I have done this for a couple of weeks - twice a week now. Eating last food approx 9pm the night before and eating 500 (okay maybe sometimes 600) the next day throughout the day and then eat breakfast and then properly the next morning at 8am ish. But i've read on this thread some people are fasting properly but for 24 hrs ie eat one evening and then not again till the next evening....as this is only one night not eating and therefore less hours I assume it is easier. Does it matter which option is chosen? I have only lost 1kg but doing it more for health reasons and so my body doesnt start craving food after being in a meeting half a day (which it did!!). Thanks

I have lost another half kilo so it all feels very slow as only about 3 kilos 6 ish lbs in total and I started on the day of the program. But I did have 2 weeks off while on holiday.

But that is very good, I have read that for weight to stay off long term it is best to aim to lose only 1-2lb per week. Crash diets are no good at all because it is not fat that is going, just fluid.

I have been very naughty for the past two days because I have been on holiday, so enjoying some treats:o Not too worried though if I have put on a couple of pounds, will get back into it next week and hopefully lose it again and some more:)
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

  • Keep losing half a kilo per week (or thereabouts) and you'll be near to a stone lighter by Christmas :) . I've managed to lose 10lb since I started the diet, which was just after the programme was broadcast and I'm very happy to be losing a pound or so each week.
  • Put on a pair of jeans yesterday and wondered why I didn't wear them more often, then looked at the size and they are a size smaller than I usually take and I still needed a belt.

  • Ok, found you lot.. I know someone must be doing 5:2 :D

My boss at work (2 of us in a little office) does it and he is doing well.

I have lost 13kg using myfitnesspal and just counting calories but in the last few months slowly put on 3 kg of it back.

Fed up with counting calories every single day so....

Not sure if it was somewhere on the thread but...

what do you eat (menu) on your 600 cal days?

    Thanks a lot
  • I'm eating a fair few 'zero' noodles on fasting days, which is the Holland & Barrett name for Glucomanan (Shirotaki) noodles. They fill me up and mean I can have lovely flavoursome food such as beef in oyster sauce and stir-fried chicken noodles.

My husband usually starts the day with porridge (made with skimmed milk) but I'm not a breakfast person. On a working fasting day he will often take a Weight-watchers wrap with some salad and half a chicken breast.

I'm a big fan of soup on fasting days because the emulsified food stays in the stomach longer and delays hunger pangs. Not that there are many hunger pangs with the zero noodles...

Oh, and last week my husband went shopping for a new jacket. Whereas he would normally have bought Extra Large, this time he was able to fit into a Medium. Admittedly, he has been watching his diet for more than a year because he was diagnosed with diabetes, but it still came as a delightful surprise for him.

Want a recipe wot I concocted? I would post a photograph of it but I'm a newcomer to the forum so I can't yet. Never mind...

Lo-Cal Beef in Oyster Sauce with Cabbage and Shirotaki (Zero) Noodles

Serves 2. Total calories per portion: 166

    Ingredients

70g Onions, chopped (½ medium onion) (16 cal)
    60g Mushrooms, chopped (4 cal)
    5g Sunflower oil (45 cal)
100g Lean minced beef (frozen) (193 cal)
1 beef stock cube (15 cal)
    2 tbsp Oyster sauce (30g) (4 cal)
    2 tsp Soy sauce (10g) (6 cal)
    2 tsp Cornflour (10g) (36 cal)
50g Cabbage, finely shredded (4 cal)
    200g Shirotaki noodles (10 cal)

    Method

Lightly fry onions in oil until translucent. Add mushrooms and fry until dry. Add the beef and fry until cooked.

Dissolve the stock cube in ½ pint of water and add to the pan together with the oyster sauce and soy sauce. Simmer for about 20 minutes, then slake the cornflour with a little cold water and add to the pan. Continue to cook for about 5 minutes.

In the meantime, steam or microwave the cabbage and boil the noodles in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

Lay the noodles into a bowl, top with cabbage, then pour on the beef sauce and serve.
  • You need to look back through this thread as loads of ideas and recipes, I tend to eat a soup at lunch and drink lots of water, green tea, coffee during the day, dinner usually involves salad or veg with some fish
