Be careful about drinking too much of the stuff because the acid in it will rot your teeth and the sweeteners in it might increase your appetite and make you crave sugary snacks. Also, the sodium in it might end up making you feel more thirsty, and the caffeine is addictive and can cause high blood pressure. The jury is out on the effects of aspartame but some say that it's not too good for you.0 -

My boss at work (2 of us in a little office) does it and he is doing well.
I have lost 13kg using myfitnesspal and just counting calories but in the last few months slowly put on 3 kg of it back.
Fed up with counting calories every single day so....
Not sure if it was somewhere on the thread but...
what do you eat (menu) on your 600 cal days?
Thanks a lot
Nothing! Its a lot easier that way, for me anyway. Hunger comes in waves and goes away, it doesn't build up over the 24 hours. I start my fast after my evening meal and end it exactly 24 hours later, so I never go a single day without having something to eat.
During my fast days I drink water and no-added-sugar squash. I feel great for the whole day, and actually look forward to my 2 fast days each week. I don't fast on consecutive days.
i've been doing this for only 5 weeks now, but I can see myself doing this long term as I'm mainly doing it for health reasons and the weight reduction is an added bonus.
If I remember correctly, the hunger is the important bit in the brain cell regeneration, so presumably not being hungry will prevent that good aspect of intermittent fasting.0 -

Sorry I may have got this wrong but what you seem to be describing is one meal a 24hr period/day which is not 'nothing' and is that meal limited to 600 calories?
Actually I ate that way for years - ie just one meal a day - and never thought of the time inbetween as fasting. More like lack of organisation on my part! :rotfl:
I actually put on a huge amount of weight on that way. It's not as if I was snacking inbetween or drinking sugary drinks but clearly that lifestyle did not suit my particular metabolism - either that or I was eating too much (and not exercising it off) when I did eat.

After a lifetime of yo yo diets...I have finally found one that works.
Its easy to do,and you are not really fasting as i stick to meal replacement drinks on my days off. The thing is your metabolism doesnt slow down so the weight loss is steady and regular.
Generally i gain half a pound one day and lose a pound the next...
Overall a stone so far.....0 -
Is this something different to the 5:2 diet then? Because my understanding of the 5:2 diet is that two days a week, females limit themselves to 600 calories in each of those 2 x 24hr periods.

I thought 600 calories on the 5:2 was for men and it was 500 for women? The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
