...I have ordered the book from Amazon and I'm going start this diet tomorrow.

Which book? I didn't know there were any good books on this yet because the science is so new.

If you look back through this thread for a couple of pages, you should find a number of IBS sufferers who have found it beneficial.

First fasting day of the week today and second on Thursday. Thankfully they don't have to be consecutive this week.
Weighed yesterday and I am exactly what I was one week in! And I started on the day the prog aired, (I heard about it from his interview on the Today programme that am).
But as DH keeps reminding me I am still getting the benefit through the hormone changes which help prevent my becoming diabetic.Just hope my BP will be coming down too. I'm feeling that there's not much point right now when I see what splendid results everyone else is getting!

I wouldn't give up yet. As I said, I was the same weight for 4 weeks and then dropped two pounds. If you think about it, you are fasting two days a week which is a massive calorie deficit over a month. There will be some benefit from this eventually but perhaps your body has other things to sort out. I had a fever last week, I was burning up and I am sure it was my body curing itself as it resolved on its own.

One thing, I was eating chocolate ices and chocolate bars in the evening of days I was not fasting. I have cut these out now and maybe that is why I lost weight. There could be a small thing that you are doing, like too many calories on a fast day or something that you are eating on non fast days that prevents you from dropping weight. I know you are supposed to be able to eat what you like but I think its within reason.

    Maybe it's this one?

    The 5:2 fasting diet

Pretty steep at 52 pages for £6.99, though. I would think there's more info on this thread!

its is the 5.2 fasting diet. I just assumed this must be the diet that you were talking about. I didn't see the Horizon programme. though I am going to see if I can watch it on iplayer. I should get the book today, I'll post and let you know if it's worth the money!

I did my first day of fasting yesterday, I was starving at tea time. Think when I have my next fasting day on Friday I'll be more organised with what I'm going to eat. I have made the rusting tomatoe & garlic soup from the lavender & lovage site, I'm also going to make a fruit salad. I didn't manage 500 cals but did the 600!

I will look back for the info on ibs & colitus. thank you.

The book was only published on 9th October

It is available on Kindle at £3.99, personally though I prefer a book to read.

  • the book came this morning. Its by Jacqueline whitehart & it is called the 5.2 Fasting diet. It basically takes you through your first few weeks, giving you tips like not to excersise on fasting days ( a mistake I have already made!). basic calaries, sugestions what to eat on fast days. lots of reciepes and tips to get you through the fast days aswell. It's quite a nice little book to keep in your bag and you can keep referring to it whenever you need to!

This diet is so simple to follow that I'm surprised anybody found enough content to fill a book.

Edit: 52 pages! That hardly merits being called a book. I suppose others will be jumping on the bandwagon soon.

    Apologies for my cynicism. :p
