5:2 diet

  • I personally believe that it would be an intelligent diet, as well. I feel that the modern diet is completely out of whack compared to what our bodies are designed to eat. For hundreds of thousands of years we have gone through periods of having large amounts of meat, as well as wild plant based foods. We would also go through periods of not having much, if any, food to eat daily. We also have gone from burning an average of 3,000 calories a day as a normal person to less than 1,000 most of the time. We consume several thousand calories with ease with the modern foods we often eat.
  • Morning 5:2ers,

Managed to survive yesterday evening at the football without indulging in some food. To be honest the high prices they charge combined with the awful quality made it easy although the howling wind and driving rain might have pushed me to do it - I was strong :)

Anyway my wife collected our scales yesterday and my unofficial weigh in this morning showed I have lost 3.5 lbs in the first proper week of doing the diet. Woohoo!!! I say it was my unofficial weigh in because I weighed myself this morning when my last weigh in was in the afternoon so that may account for some difference. Also with this being on new scales it may be that the differences between the two make it look better than it was - future weigh-ins will tell.

Saying all of the above, my wife weighed herself on the same scales and it showed she had put on 4lbs.... I have doubts whether she weighed herself properly but we will re-weigh tonight to check. I do keep telling her that she needs to exercise along with the 5:2 plan but she just won't listen and whereas I play football twice a week, she only walks from her car to her classroom - ok she is on her feet most of the day teaching but not the same as actually walking around etc...

Anyway fingers crossed that the re-weigh later improves things or I think she may quit after only a week.

How did you find the vegan challenge? I've been considering doing this but I really love eggs...

It wasn'tthat hard once you got into it, I ate a lot of hummus though. I did enjoy some pizza after I finshed though.

Fasting again today. I alos reset my targets as I was hovering at a pound over my last target, so I took another 7lbs off that to motivate me.

  • Afternoon guys, well the re-weigh last night confirmed that I had lost 3.7lbs in my first week of 5:2ing. Really pleased with that although didn't expect to see such a drastic loss. Am going to see how I go this week and if its the same again then I will drop down to 1 day a week fasting and see what happens - I don't need to lose that much....

Anyway today is my second fast day this week - boring same old for me.... apple and black coffee for breakfast and a rice cracker with Philly extra light and cherry toms for lunch. I have got a yogurt as a back up if I get hungry later (which I am starting to feel... another cup of tea time then :) ) Not sure what SWMBO has planned for tea but hopefully something tasty and filling.

Thanks for that. I will have a think about it!

    Fast day for me today.
  • Hi everyone,

Well I managed the fast day yesterday without too many problems. Didn't have my 'backup' yogurt at lunchtime which I was pleased about.

When I got home I found out SWMBO had planned a hairy bikers meal for us which I would highly recommend:

The Hairy Dieters’ roasted cod recipe

    http://www.womanmagazine.co.uk/food/roasted-cod-parma-ha-peppers-recipe/

224 calories per serving and really tasty. We upped the veg content a little but omitted the parma ham so ended up about 240 calories and was delicious!!!

Best day to have your fasting days?

I'm thinking Wednesday and possibly Monday?

I am doing one today, I have had 96 calories so far so 500 odds for my main meal later this evening.

It's just whatever works for you. I have never tried 2 days in a row, nor a weekend. I tend to stick to a Monday and Thursday but it's not set in stone for me. I switched today for tomorrow instead.
