could be, however seeing as i normally skip breakfast when im being 'bad' (debateable whether this is bad or not) and then skip lunch, its not something my body isnt used to, i do it all the time

they're not just normal headaches its migraine, dizzy, cant open my eyes, front of my face goes numb, sick and vomiting etc

If it's that bad you should really be visiting your GP and getting them to check you over, all those symptoms can be associated with hypoglycaemia among other things.

  • I have just finished 2 weeks of 3 restricted calorie days per week. I started it because i had to fast before a medical procedure and then heard about the Horizon programme. as i had found it relatively easy to go 'cold Turkey' on clear fluids only for 36hrs it seemed a shame to waste it.
I eat between 5-600 cals (in 3 small meals) on my restricted days and whatever I want (within reason) on my normal days. I am a 60yr old, obese fully qualified health professional who has ignored all her own advice for the last few years and now have joint problems (inflammation), high blood pressure and a few other problems plus sugar addiction!!

What have I found?, in two weeks...I have

    6lbs weight loss
Reduced blood pressure by 10 points
Cut my sugar cravings by a ton
On normal days found that I am eating substantially less & much healthier choices.
Not felt weak, had head aches or got the shakes since the first total fast day.
I don't get 'hungry. anymore. even on restricted days
I'm not picking at food or grazing like i used to do.
I am sleeping better at night because I have less joint pain.
I have more energy and am walking, gardening etc more.

    Will I continue with this experiment..you bet I will!!!:T
    :T2013...nothing..still hoping though!!

    Well done JC!
I just wanted to say that I have found similar. I have avoided weighing myself because I didn't want to be put off by the scale of the problem but I know I have got very overweight. Heck let's just say it - 'FAT'.
Part of the problem is being retired. More time to think about food, more time for baking.
Surprisingly my BP and sugar were normal when checked recently.
Though they do creep up at times.
Anyhow I'm on week 3 and clothes are less tight, normal days I am eating less, have virtually no cravings, no bingeing.
I did get a bit shaky one day last week (week 2) but had made the mistake, imo, of doing some heavy work in the garden.
Getting more organised now in terms of planning the day and having nutritious food to hand. Really - 500 cals is a steal - it's surprising how many tasty options there are :T

There was nothing I could do about the steroid weight (although I am officialy done with them because pre&post blood tests showed no improvement in my inflammatory markers, wasn't a surprise because I felt no better, but they actually got worse which was a shock!) I have been eating the wrong things and snacking far too much.

I converted my weight from kg to stones (i'm better with imperial) a few days ago and I was absolutely horrified let me tell you, so I am glad i've found IF!

I can't find much about health benefits on daily 8/16 fasting but anything that cuts my calorie intake can't be bad for me in my view.

I will try 2 (to start with) days fasting aiming to eat between 5-600 cals (in 3 small meals) on my restricted day.

Question. Is the idea that the 5-600 cals is low protein? Thanks.

My understanding from watching the horizon programme is that no, the restricted calorie day is not about low protein. Just healthy food of any description. It's 500 cal for women and 600 cal for men.

I am going to try my 2nd low cal day today, without pushing myself really hard.

Puddy - it does sound as if you need to be looking after yourself better. If missing meals is making you that ill, then prioritising not missing meals must be a... priority. Work won't care if you make yourself ill and go off long term sick: you'll be replaced.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Any half decent online tools for tracking alternate fasting diets? Or just use this thread?

I must say I am finding this thread a great inspiration.
I never usually count calories but I have used this site as a guide for making up a two day veggie soup/stew
    http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/lostart.htm
My ingredients for two days are tinned and fresh toms, onions, a few tiny home grown potatoes, cabbage, celery, carrot, leek, aubergine, garlic plus herbs/spices.
So today I'll be eating the above plus home made natural yoghurt, an apple, morning coffee with full fat milk (sorry it has to be done :D) water and multivits.
All well within 500 cals - in fact I might allow myself a scattering of dried cheese. ;)
Re protein I believe he said we had to be careful about the amount of protein generally. I once read that a serving of meat should be palm sized? So I looked it up
    http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_much_is_one_serving_of_meat
    Onwards and upwards eh?
    Or rather - downwards :)
