It can also be extremely delicious and not dangerous.
Cooking can sometimes destroy the goodness and sometimes it can enhance it.

Crossing the road can be dangerous..;)

You did notice the word can in my post didn't you?

I have a question about exercise though. Exercising fasted is supposed to be really good for you, and I can do this at the weekend, but not in the week because of work. Would it be detrimental to exercise at 5am and not eat until 12? I'm not doing anything cardio yet, just some conditioning exercises crunches and squats to try and build some strength up.

Some say if exercising fasted, you should take 10g BCAAs prior, and then again every two hours after training if you're not eating for some time - Martin Berkhan from leangains suggests this. I used to take the BCAAs but have recently stopped using them prior to fasted training and haven't noticed any adverse effects.

A lot of girls I know who practice IF also don't take BCAAs prior to training and then have quite a long period after training before breaking their fast.

Have a try and see what works for you.

I just recently started using BCAAs before training but am unsure whether it's just a placebo effect that makes me train harder after them.

Ps edited to add, there was a young Muslim woman in the FTZ/ATX training circuit class on Saturday moning, long sleeves, long joggers and headscarf and it was warm in the room, not allowed to drink water or eat till nightfall, the girl was nails! Seriously that's motivated.

I like sashimi but would order it in a restaurant not attempt it myself.
Pickled fish I would attempt myself though.
Haven’t eaten raw meat since I lived in Germany, that’s why Germans have a step or washout toilet though.

Thanks for the tips about BCAA's. I'll give it a go without anything and see how I get on, hopefully I won't need them though, my food budget is not stretching far enough as it is.

I ache all over from the little exercise I did do at the weekend, shameful!

Yes, it does pay to be selective. I wouldn't eat raw chicken or pork out of choice, although I have eaten the latter raw by mistake in a sandwich. It was as tough as old boots.

I also accept that just because eating fish and meat, raw or cooked, doesn't give me any problems, it doesn't suit everyone.

Having worked in Germany for a while, I am well acquainted with their peculiar sanitary ware. :)

I was very motivated to try this after watching the TV programme.

I started on Monday and only had my 500 calories at my evening meal that night. I can't really say I felt hungry either. Through the day I had decaff tea and some water. Normally I love diet coke and tea with milk.

When I woke up on Tuesday morning, I felt awful. I had a headache, felt really, really tired and sluggish and just wanted to close my eyes. I came home from work and had some lunch, went back to work, and had my evenng meal as usual. It was only after that, that I started to feel good again.

Today I've been fasting again and again I've only had decaff tea and water (about to have my allowance soon) and again have a headache. I wonder what I'll feel like in the morning?

But I feel fine otherwise and can't say I'm longing for chocolate or food.

    Good luck to everyone.

you're the only person, so far (havent read the whole thread yet) who has mentioned this. i consider myself to have a bad diet when im not watching my weight and by that i mean that i often go without breakfast and lunch and then have a huge meal in the evening. when this happens to me, i put on loads of weight, but i also regularly come home from work with a massive headache and spend the evening with my eyes closed, dosed up on ibruprophen and paracetamol. if i go for many hours without food i get the most dreadful headaches, migraines really and im sick.

so without planning to, i am fasting from my evening meal, to the next day's evening meal and im overweight and headachy

It might just be that your body isn't adapted to fasting for that long. I posted earlier saying that I wasn't always able to IF but that it's returned naturally since I went back to low carb, and what is described above is exactly how I felt if I tried. But with a lot more reading I think I understand what I was feeling. A lot of people, when they first start low carb, can experience something known as 'carb flu'. It's due to the body adjusting from a carbohydrate based energy supply to using stored fat, it also adjusts it's salt (sodium/potassium) levels etc. The usual suggestions are to drink more and eat more salt.

could be, however seeing as i normally skip breakfast when im being 'bad' (debateable whether this is bad or not) and then skip lunch, its not something my body isnt used to, i do it all the time

they're not just normal headaches its migraine, dizzy, cant open my eyes, front of my face goes numb, sick and vomiting etc

Hi Purdy, that really doesn't sound good. I'm not sure of your gender, but there is a link that Brighton Belle posted in post 354 (don't know how to quote) which says that women in particular have different experiences with fasting.

Can you try shorter fasts? I appreciate you're not that hungry or life is getting in the way, but it's not making you feel good.

I'm not low carb and I can do 16 hours ok. I've not tried 24 hours yet either but I would imagine i'd probably feel as you describe.
