Not to bad, the bentonite is a form of clay that cleanses your digestive system, you stir it in hot water, she did sleep more, but she grew up in a traditionalist RC family so was used to fasting from confession till after mass.

I was reading to day (in the comments section of the bulletproof diet site...no idea hpw i got there but obviously about fasting ) about low carm sea vegetable based noodles that cleanse called, um...sea brrom i think.

What symptoms create the idea we need cleansing, and what is it pele are cleansing themselves of? Like buildup arou d the villi of everything that is in feacal matter?

I have a friend who rves about colonics and while i like what she describes as feeling 'light and clean' i don't really feel that a dirty colon worries me daily. I am afraid i would not want to eqr, or well, continue with normal bodily function to create anything else that ends up in my poop, if i had spent money cleaning it :o

I do get a happy feeling after short veg juice 'fasts'.

I think your body is quite adequately adapted at self-cleansing/detoxing itself without any outside help....just my opinion, from what I have read!

For those experiencing "carb flu" type symptoms.......
Die-off reactions. In fact, common sugar and carbohydrate cravings may be yeast organisms calling for dinner. This may sound odd. However, when ‘deprived’ of sugars or even other carbohydrates, the yeasts in the intestines and elsewhere begin to die, releasing toxic substances. These cause unpleasant ‘die off symptoms’ that can include nausea, anxiety, fatigue and many others. Eating sugars or even some starches ends these unpleasant symptoms, often quickly. Thus, feeding the problem has a temporary satisfying effect, causing an addictive behavior regarding sugars in the diet. This is a very common situation that most people do not understand at all.
Many, many people overeat on carbohydrate foods today. Many do not realize all of the foods that are high in sugars or starches. Common ones include sugar, honey, candy, cookies, rice, bread and potatoes. Others include milk, fruit, juices, most processed food if it is sweetened at all, sweetened drinks like Gatorade and bottled teas, sodas, peanut butter, juices, etc.

It's also important to recognise the role that sodium and potassium play when you switch from a high carb diet. Carb flu can be avoided/alleviated by upping your salt intake, particularly while the body adjusts.

• I've managed two 16 hr fasts this week and was doing well having healthy food etc . My usual no bread , low carb etc. However I did have afternoon tea yesterday with cake, sandwiches, scone and then developed a headache . Could that have been from eating the bread, sugar etc ? Anyway , when I got up today my intestines felt really uncomfortable . I was able to delay eating until after 1pm today as just didn't feel very hungry . I've been surprised that I've been able to function without breakfast on the days I've waited until afternoon to eat as I usually get light headed and short tempered when I'm hungry ! Have to say I'm quite enjoying this regime so far .
• Hi, I have started doing the 5:2 diet and this is my third restricted calorie day. This week Tuesday and today (Thursday) have been my 'fast' days. I have been doing 500 cals on my RC days and splitting this into two small meals, one for breakfast and one for my evening meal (around 7.30 as my partner doesn't get home from work until then so I usually wait for him).

The first RC day (last week)I felt fine until about 6pm & then felt shaky. I felt fine after my next meal but a little irritable.

On Tues I didn't get the shakes, felt pretty hungry but moodwise ok.

Today I feel awful. Not shaky but really low energy, emotional (getting upset over nothing) and had to lay down for a while. :( I know it is normal for it to affect your mood but what I would like to know is the people that have been doing it longer than me, does it get any easier? I don't want to give up, I have lost 2 lbs already and the health benefits sound amazing (I watched the Micheal Mosely prog) but I am also prone to depression and have been pretty stable in my mood for a while and don't want it to get me down.

I probably haven't drank enough fluids today and also had anesthetic at the dentists this morning so it could be a combination of these things that are making it more difficult for me today.

I would be interested to hear how it is affecting other peoples moods. Thanks. :)

I have just completed my third week (but doing two consecutive days). I try to avoid heavy physical activity during that period. Plus I take a multivit. At worst I have only felt a little shaky a couple of times - I don't think I was drinking enough water. But no headaches, no mood changes. Not tempted to binge eat inbetween - in fact my cravings and temptations are significantly reduced.
Today (non fast day) I had a brunch of grilled bacon and mushroom plus lettuce in two small non buttered rolls. Normally it would have been fried and I'd have gone on to chomp my way through other things but I felt absolutely stuffed! So for evening I had a light meal of hake with steamed samphire with runner beans fresh from the garden and I now feel just right.
It seems my taste buds and appetite are getting re-educated. :T

Morning, I've just finished my first week of 16/8 and i'm happy so far.

Cravings are significantly reduced, digestion feels better and seems to be more efficient, and I'm only hungry for about an hour a day, instead of the constant low level hunger I experience when eating the same food over a longer period. Guess I am one of the people this set-up is right for.

I don't think I have got this quite right yet though, I'm eating 1100 calories a day and i'm full up on that, but think I need to try the leangains approach and cycle the calories up and down dependent on my activity level each day.

Need to do more research but going to stick with it. Longer term I think I want to do x2 24 hour fasts a month. As i'm responding so positively to the shorter fasts i'm inclined to stick with those for now.

I lost 2lbs this week.
Debt free (finally) and saving a deposit for my first home.

I think I'll do two consecutive days for at least a month. Then I might switch to one day a week complete fast then look at a maintenance plan which incorporates a longer 3 day affair.
I don't want my body to get used to any system.
But so far so good. Goal is weight loss as well as general health but I didn't want to weigh myself at the start - I might have just thrown in the towel before I even got started :rotfl:. But now I can feel a difference (3 weeks and counting) I might pluck up the courage to get out the scales (at least I know that there is already downward movement ;)).
