I'm doing the 5:2 diet too...and blogging the recipes I'm using. If anyone wants to check some of them outThis is the recipe part of my blog. I'm rather enjoying testing some new recipes...
Great recipes (and site) thanks! I love hake btw. I get mine fresh from a fishmongers van at a local market. He says he gets his fish fresh from the docks - it certainly tastes like it.
I bought some new scales too. I didn't weigh myself at first but on recent results it looks like I'm losing about 2 pounds a week. The current weight is still scary though :eek::eek:. I am moving to the alternate day diet for the next 3 months then will take it back to the 5:2 and then we'll see..... :)

    I aim for 450 - 500 c a day on my 2 days. This is day1 of my 4th week.
I like having a boiled egg for breakfast, then a very large salad with 1 slice of prosciutto for lunch with fruit after, a peach or clementine mid afternoon and a small amount of white fish baked on loads of veg under tinfoil for my supper. I don't eat any carbs or drink any milk on these days, unless it falls on a Weds when I have a latte after my gym class with friends.

I've finished Ramadan recently and lost well over half a stone (5kg) and planning on starting the 5:2 this week officially! Hoping to order some decent scales and like the look of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ozeri-Bathroom-Hydration-Recognition-Technology/dp/B004NXUAXW

Everything I have underlined contains some sort of carbs, so you do eat some carbs.

I'm growing more and more convinced that this is the right lifestyle for me.

This weekend I was a little down and decided to cheer myself up with food. Purely emotional eating, I really wasn't 'hungry' and I knew it, but did it anyway. But that aside, two hours before my eating window was due to close I felt pretty bad, had a headache, bloated, digestion was loud and uncomfortable. This was a mini-binge compared to previous ones so was interesting to actually notice my body wasn't impressed (i've genuinely never noticed before).

After a binge I'm normally starving the next day, maybe because of increased carbs, sugar, stretched stomach (who knows). But this morning i'm not hungry, i'm into my 17th hour of fasting and I'm fine. My body is clearly busy dealing with my weekend of excess and i'm in tune with that.

I'm doing Alternate Day Fasting and started on 13th August. I'm finding it really ok and haven't felt hungry or had any cravings. Had some headaches to start with during the first week, but they've passed now (think that was because I had also cut out caffeine.)

I weighed myself this morning and have lost half a stone. I'm hoping I lose another half stone by another two weeks.

Ruby - that's very interesting. Something similar happened to me.

I have been struggling for a very long time and then after having watched the Horizon programme and I am now trying the 5:2 regime

I also decided to try going grain free. I did it for about two weeks and was starting to feel really good. I then decided to reintroduce some grains to see what happened.

Last Saturday I tried some bread:eek: and on Monday some rice.

I have felt terrible. IBS symptoms back with a vengeance, headaches, nausea and exhaustion.

I think I can safely conclude that grains really do not suit me.

I feel a little better today - will just "nurse" my tummy along for a few days and then go back to 5:2 in a few days.
  • The original and very compelling BBC Horizon episode has now been posted on YouTube by some kind soul. It is the full length version. I don't think it is still available on BBC iPlayer. So, if you missed it, you can search

BBC Horizon 2012: Eat, Fast and Live Longer

I'm not allowed to put a direct link in just now, so you can copy the search phrase and paste into your browser or in YouTube.

I really think that this diet/lifestyle tweak is the way to go. I love doing it, it's easy and I feel rejuvenated and full of joy! :j
