I fasted today. Had one of those tuna light lunch things at work (211cals), then went for a run after. Didn't really feel hungry so just had scrambled eggs on toast and a hot chocolate.

I have a question for folk. My middle is still quite flabby, despite the weight dropping each week. Exercise wise I've been running a lot and as a result haven't been to the gym for a while and most of my strength training has gone out of the window. Most I do is push ups and sit ups at home each day. Do you think I need to go back to doing more in order to burn more fat through exercise?

On the exercise bike, rowing machine & treadmill I type in the amount of calories I want to burn off (250 or more in total), I then use the machines ie. ab crunch etc. I do a couple of minutes on the power plate machines for legs and abs as well as weights for my waist etc. I spend about an hour and half at least three times a week in the gym. Granted have only been going for the last three weeks but what with doing the 5:2 for the past 5/6 weeks would have thought I would see some improvement by now or am I being unreasonable ?

It sounds as though you're not doing the right exercises or combination of exercises to achieve the results you want. Most of what you mention are cardio based exercises which will do nothing for toning and shaping. You want to be using weights (free weights such as bars and kettlebells, not machines) and high impact resistance type training for best results.

Can you book an hour with a PT at your gym to talk/walk you through the type of stuff you should be doing? Or join a local bootcamp? Or does your gym have classes such as circuit training, Xfitness, Bodypump, Boxfit etc?

Glad you are back :), not quite there yet myself but have read that some people alternate a 6:1 then a 5:2 every other week. I know what you mean about it being scary to drop a fast day

    Thanks :)
That's a good idea, I'll try that if I start gaining.

Thanks, I will definitely try the butternut. How many calories in that per 100gr please? Does it mean I could bulk it up?

I make my own paste, that is the most time consuming part. I already had that in the fridge actually, once made it lasts in the fridge up to 3 mths and we like red thai curry normally.

Wheat is a very good idea... I could definitely use it in soups to bulk them up into real meal. Not sure about instead of the rice though... worth a try!

Sweet potato is also lower in calories than ordinary spuds, so you could try that as well, also turnips are lower in cals than spuds if you like them.

  • I am on my third fasting week! However, not fasted yet so I have left my fasting days to be a Friday and a Sunday!! Not ideal but OH was off work all week so indulged.

Thought I'd have the week off but feel the guilt and know if I want results I have to stick to this.

Going to look at some recipes today as I have the day off and can pop to Asda to get some ingredients!

OH MY GOD Chameleon you look amazing. Well done for getting that body. Funny enough, one of the girls at work is a PT for local gyms so I will have a word with her when she gets back from holiday but I tell you now, she would be so jealous of you as she is trying so hard to get her abs look like that but can't..:rotfl:

I am going to the gym this afternoon (taking a half day before the bank holiday) so hopefully, with it being quieter, I should be able to have a word with one of the PTs there.
  • Morning!

Well OH and I fasted yesterday and it really feels like it is getting easier already! We've made our lunch smaller so we have slightly more for our evening meal so we stay full until we go to bed and don't feel the want (not need!) to snack.

I don't know if I'm being optimistic or whether I can already notice a difference in my waist size. I bought a new pair of jeans which I tried on Saturday morning and they were a little snug. I've put them on today and they don't feel as tight  I haven't worn them before so it isn't because they have stretched as jeans do a bit with wear - maybe its just wishful thinking! :D

Anyway we're finding 5:2 fairly easy to do at the moment and I'm positive that we will be sticking with it :T I'm going to dig out my Hairy Dieters book and get batch cooking.
