5:2 diet

I don't think that you need the book in order to start the diet, but I found reading research onto the health effects quite useful.0

I'm on a fast day today. I won't be eating until 1am ish (working nights).
I'll be having soup and small salad, greek yog, mandarin oranges, plums, crackers and dairylea and a few cups of coffee.
I aim for around 600 cals even though I'm a woman. I can't drink black coffee without sugar which pushes up the cals a teeny bit.0 -
I think the 'eat what you like on non fast days' is very ambiguous. Some people's normal eating may be another person's binge (not saying that yours is). But it is not always clear what we should be eating. Have you tried a higher fat diet on non fast days? In trials it was found that people on high fat did better than those on low fat. It took me a long long time to lose the weight (a stone and a half) and there were long periods when I lost nothing, then I would dip down again. Also maybe you should check that you are actually only eating 600 calories on fast days (I seem to remember you are male). Do you cheat. If you are on 4:3 it is probably more wearisome than 5:2. Perhaps if you stuck to 5:2 it would work better.
I think the problem is the non-fast days. I'm always strict on the Tuesday and Thursday fast days but more lax on the Sunday as I usually add a beer to the mix (my weakness.) To be honest, I've never found the fast days particularly hard as I have been a one meal a day eater for longer than I can remember and I don't snack during the day. At least, not when I am at work.
I think my new regime of not eating 'normally' on the non-fast days may work. I'm also doing weekly measurements and monthly photos to track the progress (or lack of) and also to act as an incentive. Hopefully it will be enough to stop Mrs G asking "When is it due?"0 -
Hello, first fast day for me today after seeing many positive stories on the Facebook group page.
I don't want to post on there as I have many work friends on there who would probably see my posts - I work in an office where the women (and some of the men) love to sabotage each others attempts to lose weight so I'm hoping to be discreet about my fasting if possible (I work in a pod so no-one will really notice if I don't eat lunch).
My plan is to skip breakfast and lunch altogether and eat my 500 calories this evening as late as possible.
Can I drink tea with milk throughout the day though or does this 'break' the fast?
Cheers and wish me luck! I feel quite energised this morning after skipping breakfast - not sluggish as I usually feel. Just hope the sugar withdrawal headaches and shakes don't come on too early! :wall:0 -

Official weigh in today and I've managed to maintain! Considering I was 3lbs up on Monday after my weekend I am pleased to have got back to normal! Going to add in another fast day tomorrow, just to make sure I'm back on track!0

Weighed in on Tuesday night lost another couple of pounds. Went to input the new figure into spark people last night and I have hit my target weight. Now deciding whether to keep going and try to get to where you can fully see my top 2 or not.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Afternoon
Well its our 2nd fast day today and it seems to be ok so far.
OH isn't as grumpy as he was Monday when we did our first day so that is progress in itself :rotfl: I think it helps that I made our lunch today whereas Monday I cheated and bought ready made salad bowls as I knew I wouldn't have time to make our lunch myself.
The bowls were mostly lettuceso for today I worked through salad ingredients myself to get the most food for the lowest calories and even managed to fit in a small portion of strawberries and blueberries for him for less than the salad bowl on monday!
I have a bit of a dull headache but I haven't drunk as much as I would've liked today and I feel the start of a sore throat so that may be the reason behind it.
We ate well Tuesday & Yesterday but didn't indulge as much as would have normally I don't think.
I had a sneaky step on the scales this morning (even though I know 3 days won't reflect much) and it was down 1lb so that was good, but, I know it could change before weighing on Monday when I'll have done a full week.
