5:2 diet

Yes, I like to swim, so that's fairly low-key compared with weights, but it helps pass the time too, and I don't suffer energy loss. In fact, I normally don't eat till after the swim, and the swim on the day after a fast, is also fine.
The nice thing about the 5:2 is reaching evening (if you've already had your calories for the day) and thinking, only a few more hours and I'm free to eat again, whether you do or not. It's amazingly easy. I can eat what I like today, but just not hungry yet.
The diet is simple, eat normally and healthily on 5 days, and stick to 500 calories on 2 days, whether you exercise or not, and this 500 cals includes teas/coffees, vegies. Nothing, except water (!) is "free".0 -
Thought I'd check in and give a little update since I restarted around a month ago, and give hope to those that seem to want the weight to fall away quickly.
In the past four weeks the scales have moved down 1.5lbs. Wowee .. has it been worth it? IF I was just looking at the scales then I'd say no. BUT I believe in taking measurements and in total I've lost almost 6 inches from the bits I measure. And my rolls of tummy fat are reducing, and my trousers are looser than they were a month ago.
It's not all about the number on the scales, to those who think it is take some measurements. I'm hoping the number on the scales will drop, but I'll take being a smaller dress size instead for now.0 -
Morning all
Hello again crumblepie :hello: Great to hear the inches dropping off you!
I'm fasting today. I'm going to try this Squash and Chorizo stew for dinner http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/4824/squash-and-chorizo-stew before work. Then I might take some soup to work with me.
Is anyone else looking forward to autumn coming? I said this the other day when I was looking at other recipes for stews and casseroles. I miss stuff like that in summer when they feel too heavy in the warm weather.0 -
Hi all,
I've been doing it now for just over 2 months and have lost 2 stone. I have been doing it 4:3 but now i've hit that 2st mark, will now do it properly  and do 5:2.
fasting today, had a little hard boiled egg this morning and water since.
Last Saturday i tried it with nowt for breakfast and then the 500 cals (or less in my case) in the evening. I find it easier to do it this way when at home but not when at work (like today).
Not sure if it will make any difference though?Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -

I love the autumn time because of Halloween and also because I love stews and casseroles too! The recipe you posted above reminds me of one of our favourites involving squash http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/8910/kale-pumpkin-and-bacon-pot0 -
Please can someone tell me if they have tried the fast that is mentioned in the book as "Two to Two" (have normal lunch before 2 pm then just 500 cals between 2 pm and 2 pm the next day)? I tried to do it with a very light dinner, of around 300 cals, then 200 cals breakfast and no food until 2 pm when I would have a normal late lunch
I had mixed results, sometimes I would lose sometimes not. Anybody else has tried this pattern of fasting, and what were the results? Thank you. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Thought about it, but in the end realised you wouldn't be fasting for as long doing it this way, so didn't bother.0 -
:hello:
Hello Lovely People!
Please can I join in with you all?
My OH and I have decided to try living 5:2 after I read the Fast Diet book that Michael Mosley wrote.
The science behind the idea along with the health benefits that can be achieved have inspired me and it is something that I think we can live with long term. I have tried WW a couple of times but ALWAYS put weight back on once I’ve reached a goal or get bored of counting points every day. ( I have been watching the men that made us thin and what they says makes sense to me)
We had our first ‘fast’ day yesterday and it wasn’t too bad. OH did get grumpy towards the evening but we had left work much later than planned so our evening meal was much later than I would have liked it to be. We are having a small lunch rather than breakfast and then an evening meal. For us it feels easier to miss breakfast as we don’t tend to eat it until fairly late and it is usually only a yogurt (about 10) so it isn’t much longer to wait until lunch.
OH did have a headache but I’m sure that’s because he doesn’t drink enough. I’m always trying to get him to drink more but it can be hard work! The biggest difference for me was no snacks after our evening meal, I am terrible for looking for something to nibble in the evening - I know it isn’t good for me but I can’t help it!
Neither of us felt ‘hungry’ when we went to bed but OH was feeling a bit sorry for himself! Only to be expected at first I suppose. Neither of us felt faint or more tired than we normally would and both slept fine last night - so far so good
We’ve had a hectic day in work today so have barely thought about yesterday’s lack of food. In fact I haven’t had breakfast as I didn’t feel hungry, I have had lunch and am amazed that after nearly 5 hours I still feel full! I’ve got an apple on my desk that I normally would have eaten but I just don’t feel hungry! I am looking forward to some slow cooked minted lamb with roast potatoes and veg for our evening meal though.
I did buy some Chelsea Buns today to celebrate OH Nan’s Birthday (she passed away 10 years ago and was a Chelsea girl through & through!) but at the moment I can’t see me eating mine!
Anyway, this has turned into an essay – I’m very sorry! Here’s to being healthier and lighter!!! :beer:2014 - This is Our Year :j0 -
Estate princess - I read somewhere that headaches could be caused by lack of salt as well as not drinking enough water. I eat a couple of salted crackers as well as loads of water which helps.
1940sgal - I love autumnal food. And this is my danger time of year where I tend to pile on the pounds. The actual meals I cook are fine - but its when I add the piles of mashed potato, pasta, bread and butter with it it add the calories. and puddings - I love puddings.
I think I'll need two low cal days to recover from all the stodge!0 -
