So dinner at say 7pm and then only water until 7pm the following night but then a normal dinner. Does anyone else do this? Is it much harder? It would just make it easier for me when cooking as I wouldn't have to do separate dinners or lunches for me and the OH! Just a bit scared that I wouldn't be able to ride out the hunger pangs...although at the moment I find that I get more hungry after I eat my small meals than I was before!

Part of it is that the hunger feeling comes from your stomach (grehlins is the hormone i think) and if you don't eat at all, they are considerably lower.
Last night I shared a pumkin curry with My OH and DD; they had rice with it, I didn't so I could really fill up on the veggies, 'cos I like to feel full after my one meal.:D
The weight is stable now, but it enables me to be naughty the rest of the week and I actually enjoy the fasts once I go over the slight disapointment of "oh well, no breakfast today" (I do love food).
At this time of year, it's much easier as I don't feel cold like I did in winter; my downfall however is fruit, as I love them and always have a full fruit bowl and sometimes have to ctach myself stopping grazing on a plump ripe apricot or peach... or a bowl of cherries.:drool:I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

Have you measured yourself to see if you have lost any inches? Does your stomach look flatter? Have you lost fat from around your waist or anywhere? It might not show up in weight loss at first but if you are doing it right there should be no reason why its not working. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
I've just started on the 5:2 - I have to admit that I am also watching my diet on the non-fast days (trying to stop the snacking and over-indulging on chocolate) so I don't know if I'll be able to totally attribute weight loss solely to the fasting, but I'm also looking at it for the other health benefits.
Monday was my first fast and I managed better than I thought I would. I was surprised I didnt feel the urge to stuff myself stupid the day after. I decided to fast Monday and Thursday and I have no breakfast, minimal lunch and then enjoy tea. Today got a bit thrown as I got a very short notice call to go to hospital for a small procedure and knew lunch would be awkward so ate a little this morning. I find that having breakfast makes me feel more like eating in the day than going without. And today is proving harder right now as I'm back home - less temptation when I'm at work! But I'm going to stick to it - having an omelette tonight and I like to save enough to have an Options hot chocolate in the evening, that always feel like a nice treat0 -

Weigh in day and no real change from 14 stone, but my wii fit doesn't weigh anything less than a pound, and going by the chart on the wii, my weight has definitely gone down a bit but not a poundFollowing horizon 5-2 started 28/01/13 target where I am now ish
Maintaining now as DW doesn't want my legs to get any skinnier
Total Loss=41.6lb0 -

I also use my wii fit as scales as my bathroom scales seem pretty
wonky. But I use the BMI figure and back calculate to get a better view of what I've lost0 -
Well that's 2 fasts under my belt. Yesterday was definitely harder being at home with more temptation and with my routine thrown out. I did discover that I can do an omelette with far less cheese than I usually do which makes a huge difference. And saving 40 to have that evening hot chocolate is my best strategy 😄0

I had an interesting conversation with my daughter about the 5:2 way of eating.
I've lost 1 stone since the end of February, doing mostly 5:2, but sometimes 4:3. It's very slow, but I'm OK with it as I eat my treats on non fast days - cheesecake and cream based desserts are my downfall.
However, my daughter totally rules out the 5:2 plan as she says that it is not just about being careful on 2 days of the week. She said that if you are overweight, then it is because you consume too many calories for your body's needs, so even if you 'save' 3000 calories a week by fasting for 2 days, you can easily negate those calories by just going 600 calories over on each of the 5 non fast days.
I've never thought about it in that way, but she is right and it probably explains the lack of weight loss on some weeks.
What do you think?0
