Hi everyone. I have just read the complete thread it's taken me 3 days, but I was determined to get there. I started the 5:2 eating plan last week. My fasting days are Mon/Thurs. I had an awful headache on Mon,but was fine on Thurs. I visit a Rosemary Conley class once a week this includes 45 mins of exercise. I spread my fast days food, out over 3 meals, I have to allow for tea with Semi skimmed milk. I have enjoyed reading all your hints and tips. My first weigh in will be Monday morning before breakfast. Wishing us all good luck.0

As have said before, the fasting teaches me more self control on non fast so I don't eat for eatings sake .
Once you realise hunger pains aren't going to kill you, and they are manageable you cope better.
I think this is the key. I've only been doing this for a little while (couple of weeks), but I used to be so afraid of being hungry. I was worried I'd feel faint or weak or be absolutely ravenous. In reality, it's a relief to not worry about food for a while and it also makes me aware of how much food people do actually cram down their throats. I mean we really don't need 3 large meals a day plus snacks in between. I think this diet makes you more aware of what you are eating.
Having said that, I haven't really lost any weight, but my weight tends to fluctuate 3 pounds or so every day, so maybe if I wait a month I will see more results. On my fast days, I only have dinner, and then nothing until the following morning. I'm not strict about staying within 500 calories for my dinner, so maybe I occasionally I go over if eating rice or pasta that night. Perhaps I need to watch that a bit more, to ensure quicker weight loss, but I have heard that loss on this 'diet' is slow.marlasinger0 -

woohoo...one week down and 4lbs off
maybe slightly less, as wii fit rounds to nearest pound but 3 and a bit is fine for me. Hubby lost 5lbs after his first week so we're both happy

Another thumbs up for this diet. I have been doing the 5 2 diet for a couple of months now and have lost 1.5 stone. It really works, and I still get to eat what I want on the non fast days, although it has focussed me to choose healthier food options. Only another half a stone to go to get to my correct BMI which should be achievable. Give it a go!0

Congratulations to those who are losing weight steadily. :j
Are you sticking strictly to 500 calories on fast days? I'm not, though I doubt I can be too far over, but I wonder if that's why I'm not really seeing any losses (what I lose on the fast day, I tend to generally put back on, on the following non-fast day).marlasinger0 -
I'm a man so allowed 600 cals. I try, I may be slightly over or under, but not far off. Two pieces of fruit for breakfast, cherry tomtoes or something similar for lunch, and a salad and low cal soup or a plain omelette for dinner. That should come in under 600. Some days are very easy and I don't get hungry at all, others are more difficult, but it does seem to get easier the longer you keep at it.0
