I have been reading the IF diet book. Has anyone tried the intermittent fasting where you just eat within an 8 hour period every day?
I have been doing mainly low carb but sometimes find it restrictive in terms of eating with the family so I thought I might try the 8 hr version which means I can have some 'normal' meals too.0 -

I'm a fitness instructor and fasting for 2 days a week is not actually healthy. What you need is a low calorie diet with plenty of exercises because if you don't exercise, you put the weight back on as soon as you stop fasting. Just my two cents.
Well, if you work in the diet/exercise industry you are bound to be against the 5:2 diet because its something that actually works and is sustainable. Unlike WW, SW and gym exercise, it is also free.
This diet brings you back in touch with your true hunger and when you stop it there is no associated binge which is more than you can say for any low calorie diet.
This diet was introduced on the Horizon programme and was researched by scientists. It has many benefits including improvements to general health as well as weight loss, and it has a positive effect on brain cells to ward off dementia.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

My brother has lost weight with intermittent fasting. However, I tend to fast all day, then eat dinner with the family. Very rarely does dinner exceed 500 calories and certainly not on fast days.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

Ratatouille again and small salad.
Not sure if I will lose weight tomo but I'm happy a shift seems to have happened on non-fast day where I really don't want to eat a lot of rubbish so although I eat more, it tends to be very healthy for me...a first!! Early days though. MFP is helping but take it mostly with a pinch of salt and use it more to log my food and ensure variety.

Hi all, just found you. I started yesterday, went really well, nothing but black coffee and water until 5pm then I had cauliflower rice with stir fried veg and some haddock grilled with chilli cheddar on top. Under 400 cal so I had a Mr Freeze orange ice lolly thing (16cal!) and some strawberries. It was far too easy, I am thinking maybe tomorrow's will be a lot harder. I did get hungry about 2pm but did some Yoga with my 3 year old which distracted me!
Not eaten a lot yet today as not really hungry, imagined I would be starving.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Hi all
I've just started doing this eating plan too. I was interested in it for a while but wanted to do my research first. I've read a million books and watched the documentary and so far I can't find anything wrong with it! I don't understand why people think it isn't healthy!
I'm now on my second week and lost 3lbs last week and 1.5lbs this week. I have roughly 14lbs still to lose. I've not measured myself since the first week and plan to do this once a month.
Have to say that I can't believe how easy it is to lose weight this way. Last year I lost 2 stone by calorie counting but had hit a wall and have maintained since December. I just couldn't get back into it!
5:2 has just given me the kick I needed. It's completely changed the way I eat on normal days too and shown me that a lot of the time I'm not actually hungry but just eating through boredom!
I'm doing the 500 cals on fast days at the moment but really interested in trying the complete fast. So dinner at say 7pm and then only water until 7pm the following night but then a normal dinner. Does anyone else do this? Is it much harder? It would just make it easier for me when cooking as I wouldn't have to do separate dinners or lunches for me and the OH! Just a bit scared that I wouldn't be able to ride out the hunger pangs...although at the moment I find that I get more hungry after I eat my small meals than I was before!
