Fast day for me as well. The thing I tend to struggle with is breaking the habit of picking. I feel a bit hungry, and it's easily manageable but it's just breaking the habit of automatically reaching for something to nibble on.
I'm looking forward to eating my rack of ribs tonight though!marlasinger0 -
Hi all,
Have been doing 5:2 for about a month now, the weightloss isn't speedy but that's fine by me, have lost 5lb in that time but have also lost 2 inches off my stomach, 2 off my thighs, 1 off the arms and 1 off the hips so I'm pretty pleased with that.
Fasting today, have had a green tea and a diet come so far today, been to the gym and burnt 350calories and going swimming tonight where I'm hoping to burn another 200.
Going to eat in a minute as the tummy grumbles aren't fading, having a big stir fry with some no calorie noodles and some Chinese stir fry sauce which should bring me in at around 250 cals (can't remember exactly without checking mfp).
Loving this way of life so far, so much freedom and fasting days really empower me, having so much control over my food, pity I can't control myself on the other days then I would be in this situation lolSealed Pot Challenge Member 151

I'm a fitness instructor and fasting for 2 days a week is not actually healthy. What you need is a low calorie diet with plenty of exercises because if you don't exercise, you put the weight back on as soon as you stop fasting. Just my two cents.0

The 5:2 diet just divides the calories differently. Unlike a conventional diet where you would restrict your calories everyday, with the 5:2 diet you can eat your recommended daily allowance of calories, 2000 for a woman, 5 days a week. Then on the two fast days you eat a quarter of that, 500 calories. Also you can exercise on 5:2, I do.
On the Horizon programme, Michael Mosley did the 5:2 diet for 5 weeks. This entailed fasting on 2 non-consecutive days out of 7 (having only 600 cals max - 500 cals for women) and then 5 days eating normally. On his fast days he split his calories between breakfast and dinner and drank water and herbal tea. Michael lost nearly a stone in weight and IGF1, glucose and cholesterol levels all improved.0 -

Thanks for your input, but IMO its not really helpful, and just saying your a fitness instructor doesn't really hold much water with me !:rotfl:Following horizon 5-2 started 28/01/13 target where I am now ish

But you see, I have followed low calorie diets with plenty of exercise and although it worked for a while, I never managed to get to my target and I got bored with the diet. I've always kept with the exercise.
Now, I've been on this plan for a while now, I am more active than ever, my body fat % is spot on, my fasting blood sugar is reduced, my blood pressure is low and I've not felt that good for a long time. So even though *you* think it's not healthy, I'm sticking with it, thank you very much. And I actively recommend it to anyone who asks me what diet I've been doing.:pI lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

I am sorry but your two week course at community college does not qualify you to tell me that.

I find 5:2 much more sustainable (and enjoyable) than eating a low calorie diet every day. A sustainable eating plan is key to healthy long term weight loss.0
