Maybe you should wait a bit and see what your results are on the 5:2 before you try the extremes of 4:3. If you have just started this diet you do not know if it is working for you or not. You need to try it for 4 - 6 weeks to see what the effect is. The 5:2 is an effective diet in itself but often a slow burner so you have to be patient.
If you are bingeing on non fast days, try to only eat when you are consciously hungry and make yourself stop when you are satisfied. However, do not try to diet and eat what you want to eat.The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
Fast Day yest
Nothing until 3.30pm
!Aubergine, !courgette, 8 cherry tomatoes, spoon of capers, I tin of tuna in brine drained, 1 onion, 2 cloves of garlic, 1 pepper and a tin of chopped tomatoes. Cooked down into a sort of ratatouille?? No idea on Cals-approx350? I had a third, a third I wrapped in filo pastry for someone else and a third is in the fridge....very frugal!
Found myfitnesspal. Got the app and I can now use this to log my eating and have a rough idea on cals and exercise. When it flashes up, 'if you continue to eat like this you'll be 9 stone 12 in five weeks', well, it's something of a motivator
Rosy, I think your systems sounds very doable. I find the late afternoon/early evening my snacky time though so I'm happy (ish) to forgo breakfast and lunch. I suppose it doesn't matter where you get your fast in. I'm probably not making 24 hours but going for as long as I can between 6pm one night to about 3.30pm the next. Then nothing until following normal non-fast day. I hope I'm doing right
And thank you Tesuhoha for your advice. You're right. I'll stick to 5:2 whilst I'm doing well on the fasts and now I can log my cals via myfitnesspal I think I'll feel I have more control on the non fast days. I am trying very hard to not diet and eat what I want without overdoing it but it's a difficult mindset to obtain. Patience I guess...DEBT LBM-3.10.2011Total debt-6800  09.09.13-zero

I started the 5:2 diet this week and today is my first fast day (500 calories). Wish me luck!0

4th fast day for me but I have no idea if I have any weight loss yet as my scales are packed away somewhere as we are having a new bathroom done.
I am still struggling slightly to come inder 500 cals and I seem to be about 80 cals over each fast day. I think today I will come under as I have a lot of walking to do today and that should take care of the extra.
I find that some cherry tomatoes for breakfast (odd I know) and my beloved mug of tea does me till lunch where I have a mug of bovril and then I can have my main meal with DH when I get home from work. Normandy pork this eve with brocolli sprinkled with sesame seeds
Well done everyone0 -

Sorry but most of the literature says exercise does not come off your 500 (or 600 if you're a bloke - that's patriarchy for you). On the other hand it does say it's not the end of the world if you go over slightly. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

My first fast day went really well. I had a bit of a mid afternoon slump but now I feel refreshed. I spread my calorie allowance throughout the day so I ate 3 meals as usual, just smaller. I had an apple for breakfast with a glass of squash (52 calories) ratatouille for lunch (85 calories) and chickpea dahl for dinner with a strawberry soya yoghurt for dessert (332 calories). That added up to 469 calories, I honestly didn't feel like eating any more! And I didn't feel bloated like I used to after dinner.0

I don't think you need good luck purple sarah!!! You're doing a lot better than me! I also seem to go over a by a wee bit mudgekin
Anyway, 5th fast day and 3rd week (I think; it seems to have gone fast this fast)
Just over the 500 if I include the milk in the copious coffees. Mr whippy ice-cream (I know, disgraceful, I threw away the cone!!)
Tortilla made into home-made pizza (lots of pepper not much cheese) I left some of it as I burnt the tortilla so that's a bit lessWeigh in tomorrow to update the figure/s

Well done purple.sarah that sounds good
I'm fasting today too and feel remarkably chirpy
And I've just been for a run!
It's strange my tape measure doesn't think I've lost any inches but my clothes are loose so I'm believing my clothes!

Edited to add I've just weighed and the scales tell me I've lost 6lb in 3 weeks yay! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

My failing is tea. If I have it without milk I get nauseous. I have gone from fullfat to semi skimmed and dropped the amount of milk a bit but that is my downfall. Without taking any calories off for my walking I have come in yet again at 555. grrr
I guess I was lulled into a false sense of security by myfitnesspal who had counted my exercise. For the first time in my life I wish I was a man :rotfl:
I found the scales and I haven't lost so much as an ounce, My weight has stayed exactly the same and that is despite me cutting down the rest of the week and also my exercise has markedly increased this week from nothing to walking a brisk mile up and down hill.0 -
A few of us found our weight stayed the same the first couple of weeks then started going down noticeably - but some of our measurements changed noticeably at the time. I gained a pound one week but still lost 2" off my waist.
I have an idea that it's as our hormones etc. are getting back to where they should be. But no evidence. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
